ルーリード最大の問題作。ネタをばらしてしまうと、頭から最後まで全てノイズ（ギターのフィードバックが中心かな）のみ。もちろんボーカルなし、ベースなし、ドラムもなし。ただひたすら音の洪水。「メタルマシーンミュージック」このタイトルそのままといっていい。それを理解したうえで聴いてみるのならよいのでは。まず知らないで買う人もいないか。不思議なのは、だまって聴いていると、なぜかそのうちにとても「きれい」な音に感じてくること。キラキラキラキラ。そんな感じ。それにしてもルーリードの曲名やアルバムタイトルってカッコいいのが多いなぁ。センス良い。ルーリードファンなら一度はどうぞ。

８０年代初期、当時ベルベッツは再評価されていたけどルーは「終わった人」として位置づけされてました。このアルバムの存在は知ってましたが廃盤で非常なプレミアがつき、(※LPはたった１回しか目にしたことがありません。何故かジャケにマジックで×されてました。カット盤か、あるいは所有者が書いたのか？)しかも、ただ雑誌等では「ノイズ」とあるだけで詳細な評価を見たためしがなく、ノイズとはいっても大したものではないだろうと思ってました。
さて、２０００年に再発されたこのCDを何故か衝動買い、聴いていてみて大変な衝撃を受けました。ノイズのイノベイターとされるTGやキャプスを凌駕しているのはもちろん、初期SPKやホワイトハウスをも超えているノイズをなんと７５年に発表していたとは。非常階段やインキャパの原型であったと言えます。ピュアなノイズを聴ける人だけ必聴です。それ以外の人は間違っても聴いてはいけません。ソニックユースはここまで徹底できないですから。
しかし、当時を考えるとレコード会社やファンが怒るのはよくわかります。確かに売れなかったろうなー。

＞ルーの『メタル・マシーン・ミュージック』は-
２０年前『ディスクリート・ミュージック』と同じ週にリリースされた。
…両者は、当時なかなか目新しかった軸の両端に位置していた-
それはつまり、とけ込むものとしての音楽、
自分がその中を漂う音響的体験としての音楽である。
アンビエントのルーツだ。(ブライアン・イーノ『A YEAR』)

音の感触はフリップ＆イーノの『An Index Of Metals』に近いものがあります。

私はこれを自然音のＣＤと同じように楽しみます。
自然音には意図などないわけで…

イーノが「波」だとすればこちらは「滝」かな？

Part 4 の最後はループになっています。
