エルヴィスが残した作品を、あの時代の最重要ミュージシャンにふさわしいスタイルでBMGレコードがリリースした第1弾が、この5枚組ボックスセットだ。制作方針はいたってシンプルで、このロックの王様が1950年代に生んだトラックのリマスター・ヴァージョンを年代順に、サン・スタジオ（この地で彼らがロックンロールの真のコンセプトを作り上げたことはほぼ間違いない）でのサム・フィリップスとのセッションから、1958年の従軍時まで並べている。エルヴィスが50年代にレコーディングしたトラックの全部が全部すばらしいわけではない（同じく、ハリウッドでレコーディングしたトラックの全部が全部駄作なわけではない）が、本セットの数十曲は、きわめて単純に、ひどい一日もそんなに悪くはないと思わせてくれる。だからこそ、いまだにエルヴィスは王様と呼ばれるのだ。このボックスセットは、まさにタイトルにふさわしいと言える。（Bill Holdship, Amazon.com）
