   1960年代後半はロックのパワーが炸裂、その勢いにジャズが飲み込まれようとしていた時代だった。そんな時代に敢然と立ち上がったのがマイルス・デイヴィス。マイルスは別にロックを演奏したわけではなかったが、エレクトリック楽器を取り入れロック・ファンをも魅了する新しい形のジャズを提示した。その金字塔ともいえる作品が69年録音の『ビッチェズ・ブリュー』なわけだが、本作はその半年前に録音した作品。
   ハービー・ハンコック、チック・コリア、ジョー・サヴィヌルとキーボード奏者が3人、さらにギターのジョン・マクラフリンを加えた8人編成による演奏は非常に牧歌的で、そのサウンドはどこかデビュー当時のウエザー・リポートに近い感触。本当は複雑だけどシンプルに聴こえるリズムと各人のスケッチ的なソロが微妙に絡み合い、まるで絵画をみているような気分になる作品だ。なお本作のリハーサル・テイクは既発の3枚組『ザ・コンプリート・イン・ア・サイレント・ウェイ・セッションズ』で聴くことができる。（市川正二）

僕はビッチェズよりもこっちが好きだ。それはテオ.マセロのエディトリアル.ワークに全てをゆだねた最初の作品だから（これはコンプリート盤を聞くと分かります）。それに、前作からの変貌ぶりという意味においても、本作-ビッチェズのそれよりもインパクトあったし。とにかく、この漆黒の静謐というべきサウンドは強力。

この時代、本作を含め、ジャズにおけるエレクトリックの導入というのが話題になるようだが、本作は、そういうことではなく、大幅なエディトリアル.ワーク（即ちリミックス）によって作られた作品ということに最大の意義があると見る。

マイルスの多様なアルバムの中でも他とは隔絶した独特の静謐な世界を醸し出している。（あえて言えば「Kind Of Blue」に近い）
ここでは、従来のジャズの柱である個人プレイ（アドリブ、＜線＞）よりも、総体として音が織りなす色彩（音色、＜面＞）に重点が置かれているように思われる。
一定のビートを刻むリズムの上を、オルガンと二台のエレピ、そしてギターが自由自在に断片的なフレーズを互いに交錯させていく様は、いつまでも何度でも聴いていたい魅惑的な空間、まさに時間が止まったような一つの世界を作り出しているのである。絵画的とでも言おうか。
後のフュージョンへの布石となったばかりでなく、プログレ方面（特にソフト・マシーンなどカンタベリー周辺）へも多大な影響を与えたのではないか。

面子のよさにもぶっとぶ。
SaxにWayne Shorter、KeyにChick Corea、Herbie HancockにJoe Zawinul
GuitarにJohn McLaughlinだ。
これだけでも総毛立つが、内容も鬼気せまる迫力。
特にSACDなので音の生々しさは天下一品。
そこのけ、そこのけ俺様が通るとばかり迫力を全面にだしたエレクトリック
マイルスの傑作。推薦します。
