このアルバムもまたジャズではない。
１９６９年、キングクリムゾンはロックの地点から、
またマイルスはジャズの立場から極めて似通った地平を目指したようだ。
結果的にロックミュージシャンとジャズミュージシャンの表現力の差と
いうかそれぞれが内包している空間ともいうべきそのものが如実にそれぞれの作品に表された訳だが、
そういう思いで聞き比べてみると偶然とはいえない時代の必然性が感じられる。
雰囲気でふんふんとジャズを聞き流しているようなリスナーには踏み絵のような作品なのかもしれないが、
プログレをはじめとしたロック、またはポストロック・エレクトロニカの視点から入り込めば、
実は難解な部分など無く、明解な「ロック」が存在したりする。

コレが分かりづらい、難解だと言う方。
とりあえず、２枚目、スパニッシュ・キーを中心に聞いてみてくださいな。ズンズン分かりやすいリズムに、マクラフリンのカッティングギター、超カッコイイマイルスのトランペット、そしてチックのキメ、これだけで十分でしょう。

あとは徐々に、サンクチュアリの神秘的な響きや、吹きまくりなマイルズ・ランズ・ザ・ヴードゥ・ダウンに移っていけばいいのです。
これが気に入れば、至福のエレクトリックマイルス時代はブートでわんさか聞けます。

楽器を演奏される方にとってこの音楽はものすごく楽しいと思います。
初めから終わりまでどんな音が出てくるか一音残らず聞き逃すまいと
正座して目をつぶって聞いていた頃を思い出します。
もっともA面1曲目の途中でレコードをひっくり返さなければいけま
せんでしたが・・。とにかくこんなにもエキサイティングなレコードはあまり無いと思います。
ものすごく暑苦しいですので真夏に聞くとグッド！
難解であると感じてしまうのは「音楽」に意味や意図などを読み
取ろうとするからではないでしょうか？
（それはそれで必要とは思いますが）コルトレーンの「アセンション」然り。
とはいえ好みがあるので直感で良いと悪いを決めても良いとは思います。
