イタリアの俳優カイアティによる詩の朗読とヘレンのヴォーカルで構成された{詩と音楽}が原題のアルバム。ジャズ・ヴォーカルの有名曲,しかもバラード曲とくればヘレンのハスキーな歌声にはまり過ぎるほどの雰囲気をつくり出し,邦題もうなづける。

ニューヨークのため息イタリアへ行く。そんなドラマのサウンド・トラックを聴いているようなアルバム。彼女の魅力的な歌声は相変わらずで、アルバム原題通り「詩と音楽」、イタリア語の詩の朗読の後に歌が続きアルバム全体がノンストップで流れていく、ジャズボーカルアルバムには珍しいフォーマット。

イタリア語がわからなくても気持ちよく時間が流れそして彼女の歌声が楽しめます。バックが現地イタリアのコンボということもあり聴き慣れた1、3、6などもひと味違った新鮮味を感じます。セレステをバックに優しく語りかけられるともうたまりません・・・。ジャケットの良さだけで買ってもこのアルバム、決して損はありません。

　黙って聴いてみて下さい。
　名盤のDon't ExplainやらYou'd be so nice to...が
収録されているアルバムも良いですが、裏名盤は？と
言われれば迷わずコレ。

　ローマのナイトクラブでヘレンが物憂げ(ジャケ写
そのまんまな雰囲気)に歌っております。11曲が収録
されていますが、各曲の間にCaiatiなる人物(イタリ
アの男優か？)が30-60秒程度で詩だかを朗読している

(何を言ってるか理解できないけれど、心地良い音な
のは確か)のが、何とも夜の雰囲気があってよろしい。

　そしてピアノとセレスタを奏でているのがピエロ・
ウミリアーニ。悪いはずがありません。ジャケのデザ
インも注目に値します。

選曲、歌声、演奏、ナレーション、ジャケットアートワーク、、、、オシャレな６０年代の雰囲気に包まれますからJAZZファン以外の方や女性にもお勧め。流せば酒もコーヒーも旨くなる。アナログ時代からの愛聴盤でMy best ヘレンメリルです。
