2003年5月頃だったかな？BS-2で10年ぐらい前の映画「プリティ・リーグ」を見ました。
1940~50年代にあった、女子のプロ野球リーグの話で、マドンナ本人も出演しております。
その主題歌「This Used to be My Playground」が収録されたCDがないかと探していたら、
このCDにありました。
皆さんにとって、マドンナの曲で印象深いのは何ですか？　Like a Virgin？、Music？
Papa, Don't Preach？、La Isla Bonita？　人それぞれだと思います。
(私は Like a Prayer ですが。)
バラードも良い曲ありますよ。
個人的には「Live to Tell」が好きですね。

このＣＤは２曲目の「I'll remeber」の為だけに購入しました。
ちょうどイギリス留学した時に持っていったのですが、英語学校でスロバキアから来ていた女性がやはり、この曲が好きでこのCDを買ったと言っていて、文化や国を超えて、いい曲は理解されるんだなぁと思いました。
恋人との別れをいい思い出に変えることのできる前向きな心境を歌った曲です。恋愛に限らず、人との別れがつらいときはこの曲を聴いて、前向きになります。
おすすめですよ。

全盛期に比べてややセールス不振に陥っていた彼女が「TAKE　A　BOW」の大ヒットを受けて発表した往年のバラード集大作。デビュー当時でこそ「CRAZY　FOR　YOU」のようなよくありがちな作品を歌っていたものの、自身でペンを振るうようになってからといもの「LIVE　TO　TELL」などに代表される彼女ならではの独特、かつ突拍子もないコード進行を持つバラードを多数生み出した。ノスタルジックの極みとも言える真の意味で「沁みる」バラード群は物事の酸いも甘いも分かり始めた大人へのカタルシスのようでもある。決してテクニック的に優れたシンガーではないが、心で歌うことによってそれがきちんとリスナーに届くことを証明するに十分な作品。王道DAVID　FOSTERと組んだ（←なぜだ？？？）「YOU'LL SEE」「ONE　MORE CHANCE」は百歩譲ったとしても寒くて仕方がないが、表題曲「SOMETHING TO REMEMBER」や「THIS　USED　TO　BE MY PLAYGROUND」のクオリティは圧巻。メロディだけでなく、その歌詞の良さも堪能するためにはやはり国内盤がお勧め。（勿論、帰国子女や語学が堪能な方は余計なボーナストラックが収録されていない輸入盤をどうぞ！）
