初期の3部作の最後。『インザミラー』『スピード』等ライブでおなじみの
彼らの代表曲の収められたアルバム、このアルバムの後本格的な海外進出が

始まるんだけどこの頃はまだ歌詞も大半が日本語であまりリキまずプレイしている感じがする、とはいえ彼らの超絶テクニックぶりは健在。高崎晃の超絶ギターソロはもとより『スピード』後半の各パートのソロは必聴に値する。
古い作品なのに今聴いても素直にカッコイイと思えるアルバムだ。

８３年発売のサードアルバム。LOUDNESS曰く『the birthday eve とDevil soldierは今まで貯め込んでいたものを一気に形にした感じで、初めて実質的にコンセプトを決めて作ったアルバムがコレ』との言葉通りLOUDNESS讃歌からラストのspeedまで一連の流れを持っていて非常に聞きやすい。曲のクオリティは文句無しで、代表曲となった『In The Mirror』『Speed』などもあるが『Mr.Yes man』や『Low of Devils land』なども見事な展開やテクニックが堪能できる。『Black wall』は初の山下昌良作曲の曲だが、疾走感溢れるロックである。（高崎晃も昔からこの曲が好きらしい）後にマイク　ヴェセーラによってリメイクされる『sleepless night』もセンス溢れる感じである。なおこのアルバムはヨーロッパで人気を獲得し、次作である『disillusion』の海外製作、ヨーロッパツアーとアメリカツアーの決行（この時のライブ映像が『EURO BOUNDS』）、ギターヒーロー『Akira Takasaki』の誕生、そしてその後のワールドデビューに繋がる布石となった。

高崎のギターは言うまでもないが、二井原のシャウトも絶品！まるで、ＨＭを歌うためにあるような声。世界中、ＨＭブームが吹き荒れた８０年代でしたが、そんな中でも日本人ＨＭヴォーカリストとして彼の力量は他を凌駕していたように思います。

曲的には、＃１→＃２の流れ(Gyuuuunnn！で始まる＃２のイントロ）が特に好きで、「♪今宵はアイツのなみだあっめー！」では未だに身震いがします。

高崎の高速ギターが引っ張るカタチで、かなりのcorkscrew（らせん状のジェット･コースター）ですが、裏打ちとして、緻密に計算され尽くされてこそのスピードです。
