このアルバム、プロデューサーがBLUE NOTEのMichael Cuscunaで、ストリングス・アレンジがEumir Deodato。

そこで、Eric Justin Kazのライヴ('02年9月)を観た後、彼に直接訊いてみました。

まずプロデューサーは、Atlantic Record側からの指定だそうで、Deodatoをはじめミュージシャンの人選の殆んどはM.Cuscunaが決めたそうです。
E.J.Kaz曰く『Cuscunaはクロサワみたいに全てを仕切っていたよ。』
このアルバム、Rudy Van Gelderの録音だとどんな音になったでしょうね。

E.J.Kazご本人は、このアルバムの雰囲気とは程遠い"陽気な典型的ヤンキー"さんでした。意外でした。

７２年の１ｓｔ。ブルース・マグースを経て、「ラヴ・ハズ・ノー・プライド」などが、リンダ・ロンシュタットらに取り上げられソングライターとして評価を得た彼が、初めて発表したアルバム。いわゆるシンガー・ソングライター的なアルバムであるものの、スワンプやカントリー・ロック的な芳醇な香を漂わせる名盤だと思う。前記の曲が好きな人であれば絶対に気に入る期待を裏切らない作品でもある。６．もリンダ・ロンシュタットに取り上げられた名曲。この後にソロ２作目を発表し、アメリカン・フライヤーの結成に繋がる、彼の活動の起点となった重要なアルバムである。
