小生がこの作品を初めて聞いたのは高校生の頃…。
＃２のタイトル・チューンなんかは絶妙のボーカル曲ですね。
ギター・ソロなんかも音こそ違えど、パット・メセニー的なフレーズがちょっと除いたりでお茶目ですね。

そう言えば、ハイラムってメセニーに師事された経験があるんですよね。
ハイラム好きは絶対何を差し置いても聞くべし！

24丁目バンドに、スタジオミュージシャンに、ばりばり活躍していた頃のハイラムですねー。
"From all sides"がファーストと思っていた私にはうれしい復刻モノです。ファンの方は買いでしょう！
おすすめは#1,#3,#6。

個人的なイメージだと、"最もタンクトップが似合うギタリスト"(^^;であるハイラム・ブロック。まぁ、そんな事はどうでもいいのですが…。
24丁目バンドの活動を停止した後の'82年にリリースされた本作(当時の邦題は"N.Y.ストーリーズ")では、その24丁目バンドでの盟友でもあったウィル・リー(b)やクリフォード・カーター(key)、スティーヴ・ジョーダン(ds)も参加。加えて、デヴィッド・サンボーン(as)も数曲でいいプレーを聴かせてくれます。
24丁目時代も含め、'80s中期〜後期のH.ブロック作品だともっと(gを)弾き込んでいたように思うのですが、本作はある意味控えめにも聴こえるプレーに徹しているようです。
勿論、[3]や[6]辺りでのプレーでは、本当は(?)もっと弾き込めそうなところを、敢えてコントロールしたかのような感じも受けます。
以前からvoをとる事はあったので珍しくはないのですが、バックヴォーカルのラニー・グローヴスとの掛け合いなどを含め、歌モノへの比重を少し高めに置いたのかも知れません。気負いのないリラックス加減がいい感じです。
[9]でのD.サンボーンの奏でるフレーズが、そこはかとなくスパイロジャイラ風に聴こえるのも、フュージョンファンには面白いかも知れません(^^;
