昨年から輸入盤で話題になっていたフランス出身の4人組、タヒチ80のデビュー作。オープン戦で5割4分8厘と驚異の打率をマークし、この調子でいったらシーズンどうなるんだよ!~と思わせたイチローも真っ青のポップ・チューン量産マシーン・バンドの登場である。エッグストーン好きの友人が絶賛していたのも頷けるまさに珠玉の一枚だ。プロデュースにアンディ・チェイス(IVY)、ミックスにトーレ・ヨハンソンと、なるほどな人脈を起用。さらにゲストでアダム・シュレシンジャー(FOW)、エリック・マシューズまで参加しているが、この音を前にしてはそんな情報もしょせん蛇足である。デビュー作なのに、まるでベスト盤を聴いているような気にさせる楽曲のバラエティ、そしてスキのなさ、貫禄。一体こいつら何者?素顔やルーツがとても気になる。リズム隊の弱さなどはちと気になるが、なんといってもまだ1枚目ですから。末恐ろしい新人の登場だ。 (渡部淳) --- 2000年05月号

TAHITI80のデビューアルバムです。
印象的なジャケットのアートワークそのままの音楽です。
ジャケットのデザインに何らかの感じるものがあれば、買って損はないと思います。

彼等の2nd以降の作品も悪くはないのですが、デビューアルバムとは違うものを作ろうとするあまり、
デビューアルバムには確かにあったマジックタッチが失われているような気がします。

有無を言わせぬシングル「ハートビート」のキャッチーさで一躍、ギターポップ界の救世主となったフランスのバンドの1st(2000年作)。このアルバム以降、かなりフランスの多くのバンドが今までにないほど垢抜けていった気もするほど影響力は大だった。アイヴィーやファウンテンズ･オブ･ウェインもここから人気に火がついたわけだし、やはり時代を代表するレコードであることは間違いない。そしてこれが特別になりえた一つの要因は、ボーカルのグザヴィエ・ボワイエの歌声だろう。コリン･ブランストーンを敬愛するという彼のボーカルは、かなり高いレベルで完成しており、独特のシルキーヴォイスは今までのギタポバンドにはなかった風通しの良さを感じさせた。それはギタポというよりソフトロックやシンガーソングライター的なクリアーな心地よさだ。
ただ、アルバム全体通すと、多少冗長に感じる部分もあり、次作以降もその傾向は強まり伸び悩んでいる感はある。僕としては、クラブ的指向をグザヴィエが捨て去り、内面に走ったほうが、素晴らしいものが出来上がるような気がする。

このCDは元気になりたい時や気持ちにはっぱをかけようとすると自然に聞いちゃいます。ちょっと癖があるかも知れないけれど、声がすごく綺麗です。透明感があるなあなんて思います。アップテンポの曲も多く、軽い気分で聞けるし、「~しながら」聞いたとしても全然邪魔にならないです。自分はよく料理をしながらこれをかけます。3曲目の冒頭から何度か出てくる「ha-ha-」なんて楽譜には絶対載ってないだろ！みたいな部分がよくあり、その声が非常に特徴的で好きです。
