北欧はノルウェー出身のフィメール系ゴシックメタルバンド「THE SINS OF THY BELOVED」によるセカンドアルバムです。2000年の作品。

ファースト「LAKE OF SORROW」では、ヴァイオリンの大胆な導入と可憐ながらエロティシズムを振りまく女性ボーカルの2点で同種のゴシックメタルバンドとの差別化に成功した彼らですが、2作目でもその基本路線は変わりありません。しかし、ダウナーでスローな楽曲が多かったファーストに対し、ここではデジタルサウンドを導入するとともに楽曲に疾走感を与えることによって、新しい一面を見せています。ダーク一辺倒だった曲に奥行きと幅が加わり、音楽的にも長足の進歩が見られます。男性デス声は相対的に後退。個人的にはデス声がなくても作品として十分成立していると思います。こうした流れはちょうどTheatre of Tragedyがデジタルサウンドを取り入れて変化したプロセスと共通しますが、あそこまで極端に走らないでファーストからのファンと一緒に師弟同行という奥ゆかしいスタンスが素敵です。

それにしてもジャケット写真といい、類例を見ない十八番の「あえぎ声」といい、相変わらずの”サービスぶり”は健在。今回はいきなり1曲目から「あえぎ声」が登場。さらに嬌声もサービスです。いやしくも男として生まれたからには眉をひそめてこうしたサービスを拒否する理由はどこにもありません（笑）。彼らは残念ながら活動停止中ということですが、ぜひとも復活をお願いしたいものです。

ノルウェーのゴシックメタルバンド、ザ・シンズ・オブ・ザイ・ビラヴドの2nd。
頻出するこの手のゴシックメタルバンドで、結局アルバムの評価を決めるのは
1. 曲、メロディの良さ 、2. 何らかの個性、そして、3. 肝心の女性Voの力量である。
まず結論からいうと、このバンドは現在のゴシックタルバンドの中では最高レベルの作品といえる。
まず曲の良さを引き立たせる二つの個性が明確に存在している点が高ポイントで、１つにはヴァイオリンの導入。
これが実にいい味を出して、ギター、キーボードのなかでアクセントとなって輝いている。
もう１つは・・・女性Voの歌。妖艶な喘ぎや笑いまでもを「歌」として機能させていて耽美度を高めている。
やはり男として(笑)このような美しい声のあえぎを聴かされると、なんともぞくぞくしてしまうのであった。
無論、全体としてのクオリティも非常に高い。ゴシックメタルを聴きたい方はまずこのアルバムからどうぞ。
