5.0 out of 5 stars ティペット初期のビッグバンド作品, 2008/2/25
現在のキースの肩書きは、作曲家・ピアニスト・音楽教育者、そしてビッグバンドマスターである。この作品はキース・ティペットによるビッグバンド作品の最初期のもので作品の完成に2年を掛けた大作。参加ミュージシャンに当時の名手が勢揃いしており、凄い顔ぶれである。
その上、この面子で何度も公演を行っていたというのだから恐れ入る。コンサートではロバート・フリップもギターを弾いていたが、本作品の録音スケジュールではギターの収録が間に合わない為、プロデュースのみの参加となっている。７０年代末に英国盤は１万程度のプレミアで、米国盤はカットアウト盤がまだ安く出回っていたが、二枚組というボリュームもありなかなか再発の機会に恵まれてはいなかった。CDの時代で手に入れやすくなったのはありがたい。ジャンルを軽々と乗り越えられたこの時代の熱い雰囲気を感じ取ることの出来る貴重な音源である。

キング・クリムゾンに参加した英国の鬼才ピアニスト、キース・ティペットが作編曲し、クリムゾンのロバート・フリップのプロデュースを得１９７１年に収録されたモニュメンタルなフリー・ジャズ＆ロック・アルバム。ＬＰは２枚組で、米国盤（ＲＣＡ）はボトルの並んだ極彩色ジャケット、このＣＤは英国盤を採用している。参加ミュージシャンは総勢約５５人。何れも一家をなす著名ソロイストばかりで、曲ごとに構成は異なるが、その主な参加者を以下に列記するに留める。カール・ジェンキンス（oboe）、イアン・カー（tp）、ドゥドゥ・プクワナ、エルトン・ディーン、イアン・マクドナルド（as)、ブライアン・スミス、アラン・スキッドモア、ゲイリー・ウィンドウ（ts）、ニック・エバンス、ポール・ラザフォード（tb）、ジョン・マーシャル、ロバート・ワイアット（ds）、ブライアン・ゴッディング（g）、ジェフ・クライン、ハリー・ミラー、デイブ・マクラエ、ロイ・バビントン（b）、ジュリー・ティペット（ドリスコール）、マギー・ニコールズ、ズート・マネー（vo）。ＬＰは中古店で最高十万円近いプレミアムがついていたことを覚えている。
