恥ずかしながらこのバンドの存在を知ったのはこのデビューアルバムが発売されてからすでに３年も経過した最近のことです。とにかく巷で「メロディック・パワーメタルの新鋭」「若き天才集団」などの評価文句を色々と見聞きし、メディアがそれほどまでに評価を向けるこのバンドの真価とはいったい？と思い、リリースされたアルバムの中でも特に高い支持を集めているらしいこのデビューアルバムを手にとって見ました。

結論です。ここに掲載されている他の皆さんのレビューと全くの同意見です。「凄い！」「これがデビューアルバム？」「若いながら何という卓越したパフォーマンスを持った集団だろう！」いくら心の奥底に渦巻く感想という名の表現を探してみても、マイナスなものがほとんど見当たりません。

スリリングかつダイナミックなドラムのフィルインからいきなり疾走チューンで幕を開ける「Blank file」、哀愁いっぱいのメロディーラインにVoトニー・カッコのハイトーンがよりエモーショナルな印象を付加するロックナンバー「My Land」、しっとり、かつこれまた哀愁いっぱいのバラード「Replica」、「Letter toDane」、ギタリスト・ヤニ・リマタイネンの驚愕としか形容の仕様のないギターテクニックをリフにおいて遺憾なく発揮している「Picturing the Past」などなど、楽曲のバリエーションにも全くの問題なしです。

ついついリズムに合わせて体を揺らしてしまうスピーディさ、そして共感、感動せずにはいられない珠玉のメロディーにとことんまで酔いしれてください。

　現在のフィンランドを代表するハードロック/ヘヴィメタル系アーティストでもあるソナタ　アークティカ。そのソナタ　アークティカのデビューアルバムが本作の「エクリプティカ」です。このデビューアルバムでソナタ　アークティカは母国フィンランドでは早くも話題となり、また日本でもヒットし、多くのヘヴィメタルファンから注目的な存在となった。

　このアルバムにはメロディックパワーメタルには絶対に欠かせないメロディ、スピードそしてパワーの３つが見事兼ね備えており、また新人とは思えぬような表現力などのおかげで美しいメロディーに疾走感あふれるスピーディなサウンドが詰まったアルバムに仕上がっている。もちろん疾走感あふれるヘヴィーナンバーだけではなく、バラード風のナンバーなども収録されおり曲のバランスが取れたアルバムだと思う。でも元はといえば彼らの素晴らしい表現力と音楽的才能が見事に発揮されたからこそ本作のような素晴らしいアルバムが仕上がったんじゃないかと個人的にそう思う。

　このアルバムはHM界の名盤の一枚にふさわしいアルバムなのでHR/HMファンの方は一度でもいいから聴いてみてはいかがだろうか。

流行ってるとはきいていた。
ストラトバリウスタイプ。これも薄々聞いていた。
焼き直しだろう。とたかをくくって買ってみた…。

で、結論から言いましょう。凄いです（爆）
助走もわずかに、大音量で猛突進する「Blank File」で幕を開けるが
音の厚さにも度肝を抜かれるが、トニーのハイトーンがこれがまた

まぶしいくらいに吹き上げる活水泉のように繰り出される様は圧巻！
２曲目の「My Land」の摩訶不思議な雰囲気の中、ドラマチックに展開される曲展開もすばらしい。
「キングダム・フォー・ア・ハート」、デビュー曲の「アン・オープンド」もスピードは控えめだがキーボードのクラシカルさ、
つぼを突きまくる耽美な美旋律は悶絶モノ！

・・・で？これがデビューアルバム？？
こんな半端じゃない作品の後って辛いんじゃ…。

ご心配なく。彼らはさらに名曲を作り上げていくのは
ファンの皆様には周知の事実ですね。

これだけでも買ってみては？
