タイトル曲だけで買う価値ありです。美しいピアノはブルース・ホーンズビー、
サックスはウェザーリポートのウェイン・ショーターでこれまた極上。

ブルース・ホーンズビーの曲ではThe Way It Isと並び最高傑作だと思います。

3曲目はバリバリのハードロックで、なんとアクセル・ローズがコーラスで参加。

4曲目、10曲目も美しい曲です。

「The Heart Of The Matter」は何度繰り返して聴いたことであろう。美しく抑制しながら表現しているが、つらい大人の失恋を乗り越えようと必死な、切なくて哀しい歌である。胸が詰まる。泣かされる。一方、私が最も気に入っている「The Last Worthless Evening」は、こんな風に優しく口説かれたいとうっとりできる歌だ。情景が映画のように浮かぶのである。10曲目はあまりにもつらいので、私はいつも４曲目に戻って終わらせている。

　10曲目は94年のイーグルス再結成の時に「書くのに42年かかった」と紹介していたものです（日本盤での訳はメチャクチャ）。この歌は、「昔の恋人(you)」との共通の知人(she)から自分にかかってきた電話をきっかけに、自分と「昔の恋人」について、また過去と現在について考えをめぐらせる内容です。お互いが自分を見失い、過ちを犯したことを考えながら、最終的に「お互いを許すこと」について思いを馳せているわけです。しかも「もう愛していないにしても」という条件付きで。きれい事でなく、非常に苦い大人の歌です。イーグルス時代から素晴らしい歌を書いてきたドン・ヘンリーですが、この歌詞でますます好きになりました。

　ちなみに、現在までの4枚のアルバムの中で、一番出来のいいアルバムと思うし、アクセル（GN'R）やP.スマイスなどの参加も貴重です。またデビュー前のシェリル・クロウがコーラスで参加していますが、彼女がこのとき「君ソロで契約して活動すべきだ」と勧められたというのは有名な話です。
