   バンドの6作目のアルバムが最高傑作になることはめったにないが、本作はプライマル・スクリームの新たな夜明けを告げる革新的なアルバムに他ならない。そんなプライマル・スクリームだが、ほんの数年前までは消耗しきっているように見えた。ドラッグに溺れた間抜けな男は、ありきたりなロックンロールによる怠惰な安らぎで痛みを麻痺させていたのだ。

   本作はスクリームにとって初めての闘争宣言である。公正な社会的良心を持つアルバムであり、スライ&ザ・ファミリー・ストーンの『There's A Riot Goin' On. Musically』のファンクに焚きつけられた憤りによって、社会の無関心と不正に怒りの矛先を向けている。サウンド面でも、1991年以来避けてきたトータル性を打ち出して、制約を課している。緊張感あるインダストリアルなトランスの「Swastika Eyes」から、安っぽいヒップホップの「Pills」、歓喜のクラウト・ロックである「Shoot Speed Kill Light」まで、心を病んで絶望的になったかと思うと、次の瞬間には、輝かしく高潔な幸福感にひたっている。

ACID HOUSEと位置付けられたりしながらも、あらゆる手法に貪欲に手を
伸ばし、自らの可能性を試す姿勢に物凄く好意を持つ(自分はです)バンド、Primal Screamの6th Albumです。
非常に多様な曲で構成されていますが、しっかりと空気が統一されていて、
他の作品よりわかりやすいコンセプト(他国の文化を節操なくパクり、
誤解して、気に入らなければゴミというレッテルを張り、
自分たちが世界の中心とでもいうように、富を貪るアメリカへの批判精神)
を設定したことで、パワーに満ち溢れた傑作になっています。
デジタリィなモノローグ、1.からいきなり鮮烈なディストーション・ギターが
荒れ狂う2.への流れはかなりハマりました。
この2.はmy bloody valentineのKevin Sealsがギターを弾いていて、彼はやはり、
ギターノイズを扱わせたら他に類を見ない天才だと思い知らされます。
その後はサイバーな4.、放送禁止用語のラップを連発する5．、
しっとりとしたメロディにオルゴールのような音色が優しい7.、
ドラッギーでデジタル・ノイズが印象的な四つ打ちビートの10．など、
完成度の高い曲が揃い、それぞれの収録時間の長さなど気にならないで聴ききれます。

前作ヴァニシングポイントで復活を遂げ、そしてこのアルバムではいよいよかの名盤screamadelicaを越えることがようやく出来ました。
どこまでがボビーのアイデアかわかりませんが、ひょっとしたら同じマンチェサウンドの盟友マイブラがアルバムをもし出しても、きっとこんな感じになるのかなぁ？と思ったりもします。
詞の世界観などから想像するに、screamadelica以降の彼らの動きとは、とにかく地に足をつけて現実をはっきりと見据えていこう。そしてそれを音に反映させていこう。こんな感じではないでしょうか？
個人的には、screamadelica収録のmovin' on upやgive out but don't give up収録のrocksと並びライブでは最高の盛り上がりを見せる＃２やラストトラックであるshoot speed/kill lightが最高にかっこよく、この2曲は発表当時は耳タコばりに聞き込みました。
しかし、とかく政治的関心が希薄な日本においては良い悪いは別にして、彼らの放つ政治的メッセージの色は見事なまでに剥離され、純粋な音楽として機能しているのは複雑なところです。
ラストトラックのshoot speed/kill lightはそんな日本を見越してか？歓喜と絶望が見え隠れしている気がしてなりません。

日本語の欲しかったので、古くて値段も高い方を買ったけど、
スワスティカ・アイズ4番と10番同時にパソコン転送出来ない。
今まで沢山転送してて初めてで、悩んだ末、またこれを買った。
恐るおそるやってみると・・ワァばっちりだ！
なぜ???結局2個買ってしまったが、
この曲は大好きなので、最新の方が音もいいし、
買って良かった(^^♪
