1977年発表。ワーナーからＣＢＳに移っての第１作。
自分のイニシャルをタイトルにしていることからも意欲が感じられる。
全体に明るく引き締まった感じの好アルバムで、これを最高傑作に挙げる人も多い。
この人の場合、シングル・ヒットする曲は他人の作が多いが、ここでも「ハンディ・マン」が特に光っている。でも、その他の曲も十分クオリティが高い。
「バーテンダー・ブルース」など秀逸。
もともと淡白さとアコースティック・ギターのギター・ワークが持ち味の人だけに、あまりゴテゴテと飾ると持ち味を失ってしまう。その点、ワーナー時代からすると若干ポップになった感じはするが、ちゃんと自分らしさは出している。特に後半がよい。
乾いた秋のドライブに。昔を懐かしむ中年の休日に。

本作('77年作)は古巣のワーナーからCBSへの移籍後第一弾作品となり、同時に中期J.テイラー作品の最高作とも評される一作です。
'70s初頭辺りのSSWブームにおいてリーダー格の一人だったJ.テイラー。私がずっと抱いていたイメージもまさに"Sweet Baby James"や"Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Hrizon"といった辺りの感触です。本作でもフォーク/カントリー的なやさしさや素朴さを生かした楽曲が含まれます(愛についての多くは、C.サイモンへの想い/言葉なのでしょうか(^^;)。
が、何と言ってもフォーク/カントリー以上AOR未満といったポップな楽曲が何ともいい具合に含まれています。
旧知の仲である"クーチ"ことD.コーチマー(g)の何とも言えない軽快なファンキーさがいい[1]、[3]ではスタジオプレーヤーとして/フュージョンシーンの人気者であったD.サンボーン(as)のナイスなソロが楽しめるなどなど。生粋のJ.テイラー・ファンの目から見てそれらがどの様に映るのかは判りませんが、事実として'78年度のグラミー賞にてアルバム・オブ・ジ・イヤーにノミネートされている事も見逃せません。[4]はシングルカットされ、全米チャート#4まで上昇。
