「THE SEVENTH SIGN」から「ALCHEMY」までの曲を集めたベスト盤。個人的には選曲にはかなり不満もあるけど、（特に「THE SEVENTH SIGN」からの）それは好みもあるからね。初心者向けにはいいと思います。

ファンにとっては本邦初公開な３曲がお目当て。２曲はインストでいかにもイングヴェイらしい曲。もう１曲は何とアバのカバー。これが、ヘヴィなアレンジがピタリとはまっていて、この１曲を聴くだけでも買ってよかったという気分にさせてくれます。ちなみにボーカルはマーク・ボールズ。

内容は皆さんが誉めてる通りいいのですが、付属の写真集も中々面白いです。若かりし頃の写真とジャケットの太った姿を比べると時代を感じます(笑)

世界には神業を成すギタリストは星の数ほどいる。その中で、イングヴェイが日本人に愛される要因には、訳があると思う。その一つにメロディーの美しさがある。米国以上にロックの中にもメロディーを求める傾向にある北欧出身というのもかなり大きく寄与しているだろう。また、これは彼以外にも良く当てはまる事だが、若い時期に純粋にクラシックの教育を受けたor興味を示してきたプレイヤーは、デビュー後神がかった才能を開花させることが多い。彼自身は、幼少期かなりそのジャンルに接してきたらしく、オケとの競演等でもそれがうかがえる。特にバロック信奉者のようで、彼の楽曲を見るとメロディーの流れを見ると確かにバロック期の旋律をかなり重要視しているようだ。メロディーの観点からみてば、バロック時代の楽曲というのは、後世編み出させる特殊奏法や複雑な和音構成などが無かった時代なので、純粋に旋律の構成からみれば、完璧に近い。特にバッハの旋律は完璧無比なのは確か。

そういう意味で、バッハの影響を受けた彼が美麗なロックメロを奏でるのは当然なのだろう。またそのテクニックも見過ごせない。ギター奏法で、イングヴェイ奏法スィープ奏法をあみだし、教本にも彼の名前が冠せられている現状からみても、その影響力と功績は計り知れないと思うが、単なる早引きだけなら時が過ぎればいずれ飽きられる。やはりこれだけ長く支持されるのは、彼のクラシック音楽への造詣の深さとそれを表現できるだけの器量そして、時として傲慢とも言える程のビッグマウス、しかしそのビッグマウスも自身のプライドと裏打ちされた知識、表現力、技量があるからこそなのだろう。
