そう、彼女は「またやっちゃった」のだ。タイトル・トラックのコーラスがバーブラ・ストライザンドとバリー・ギブのデュエット曲「Woman in Love」のあからさまなパクリだとしても、この曲が文句なしにキャッチーである事実に変わりはない――1999年のアルバム『...Baby One More Time』のどの曲（もちろん、あの素晴らしかったタイトル・チューンは除く）と比べても格段に勝っている。全12曲のうち、タイトル・トラック以外のものに関しては、このティーンの女王は、ほぼ前作のリメイクといっていい路線を取っている。「What U See (Is What U Get)」と「Stronger」は、スウェーデン人ソングライター／プロデューサーのマックス・マーティンが参加し、スタッカートの効いたシンセ・ビートが次から次へとあざといまでの強音を繰り出してきたり、極度にオーヴァープロデュースされたメロディーを随所に散りばめたりと、マーティンらしい特徴がよく表れている。だが、もっともマーティンの手が入っている部分でさえ、ブリトニーの歌声がヴァーチャルなギターのはるか下方に埋もれてしまうことはなかった――この娘は明らかにセリーヌ・ディオンとは違うのだ。ただし、どうしようもない出来のバラードだけは例外で、セリーヌと五十歩百歩といったところ。ポップ・チューンは、いずれも後世に残りそうな質の高さで、コーラスは透明感があってキャッチーだし、ビートは思わずボンボンを振りかざしたくなるほどビンビンに効いているし、ブリトニーはシャグを追い求めるオースティン・パワーズのように愛に対して貪欲（どんよく）だ。アルバム中最低の曲を削除すれば――ローリング・ストーンズの女嫌い賛歌「Satisfaction」をブリトニーは“uh”を連発して台無しにしてしまった（「アイ・キャント・ゲット・ノー、uh、サティスファクション」という具合）――ヒット曲ばかりのアルバムになるはず。そこには『ビバリーヒルズ青春白書』の再放送を見るときのような、妙に後ろめたい悦びがある。（Heidi Sherman, Amazon.com）

Oops! I Did It Again delivers many reasons why she isn't stepping down. There's the chart-topping title track which has already implanted itself into the psyche of an entire generation, the tragic "Lucky" with its refrain, "She's so lucky, she's a star, But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart", the swelling pleas of "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know" written by Mr & Mrs Shania Twain and the self-penned teenage angst of "Dear Diary". There are plenty of uptempo tubthumpers as well as a cover version of the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" which just has to be heard to be believed. As a follow-up to her phenomenally successful debut album
Baby One More Time this is pure pop perfection. It looks like she did it again.
