   第2期クリムゾンのスタジオ最終作となる本作は、キング・クリムゾンの残した多くの作品の中で、最も静謐なアルバムといわれる。かたくなまでにドラマティックな展開にこだわってきた彼らの作品の中では異質なほど、自由で繊細、暖かみにあふれた作品になっている。イアン・ウォーレスとボズ（・バレル）が参加し、相対的にロバート・フリップの影響力が減じた結果ともいわれているが、ほぼ同時期の『アースバウンド』での原始的な凶暴さと比較した際の同じバンドとは思えない異質さは、当時のバンド内の不安定な状態を物語っている。両方のアルバムに収められている「船乗りの話」を聴き比べると、同じテーマながらまったく違う曲のような印象を受ける。（大脇太一）

5.0 out of 5 stars クリムゾン史上、もっとも甘美なアルバム, 2003/5/19
　僕はクリムゾンの中でこのアルバムをもっとも寵愛している。
静かな部分と激しい部分、静と動の責めぎあいが、高い緊張感を
かもし出している、がしかし、ラストの曲が静かに終わるせいか、
聞き終えたときに、安らかな気持ちになる。

　２曲目の間奏を聞くあたり、いつものクリムゾンをしているのだけど、

３、４あたりはブリティッシュ・ロックのキャッチーさが目立ち、
ビートルズファンでも聞きやすい。５、６はほとんどオーケストラを
聞いているような錯覚を起こしてしまう。

　「クリムゾンの宮殿」よりも、こちらの方が一般的に聞きやすい
かもしれないです。個人的な意見ではありますけれど。

このアルバムはプログレロックの究極のスタイルを表現している。
あらゆるジャンルを超越し、これ以上の作品はもう生まれない。
このアルバムでキング・クリムゾンは完全に燃え尽きてしまい、
後の作品は、サウンドこそ新鮮だか音楽的には愚作。
自分の場合は、この作品を起点としフリージャズの世界へと
導かれていった。

とにかく、このグループはスゴイ！
初期のメンバーから、天才的なアーティストが巣立っている。
このアルパムを聴かずして、プログレを語るな！

１９７１年リリースキングクリムゾンの通算４作目・・・ロバートフリップのカラーが一番希薄な１枚、個人的には最後の方に買いました。ロバートフリップ・ピートシンフィールド・メルコリンズの前作継続メンバーとボズバレル・イアンウォーレスのリズムセクションの５人で制作されています。（キースティペット等も参加！！）ボズはもともとボーカルでの参加でしたが、ロバートの特訓でベーシストになったらしいですよね・・・そのお陰でバッドカンパニーにも参加したわけですから結果オーライです。室内楽やフリーっぽい感じの曲で構成され、拡散されたサウンドなので、肩透かし・面食らうアルバムです。これからアースバウンドに繋がるのですから、不思議な感じがします。もちろんクリムゾンファンは揃え
