スコット・ラファロ（ベース）、ポール・モチアン（ドラム）の「黄金のトリオ」を結成し数々の名盤を生み出す前に、ポール・チェンバース（ベース）とフィリー・ジョー・ジョーンズ（ドラム）と１９５９年に制作した一枚。後のトリオのような完璧、鬼気迫るプレイではないが、かなり出・ﾍいい。ジャズ・ファンに愛される表題曲に加え、「あなたと夜と音楽と」などのビルの得意とする美しい曲も入っている。もちろん名盤である。（松本敏之）
