このアルバムの半分は、はっぴい解散後の細野晴臣のソロアルバムと、音楽性の違いから解散のきっかけになった大瀧のソロアルバムからの抜粋。
後半「十二月の雨の日」からが、はっぴいえんどのオリジナル。ですから、正確には、はっぴいえんどのシングルスではない。

何故なら、はっぴいえんどは、松本隆、鈴木茂、大瀧詠一、細野晴臣の４人であって、この４人が作り出す音が歌が「はっぴいえんど」だからである。
細野のソロアルバムに大瀧の参加はない。

もともと、大瀧と、細野の音楽性の違いから、解散したのであるから、最もな事であるが、前半、大瀧と、細野のアルバムからの抜粋は、その後ナイアガラレーベルを立ち上げ、伝説の「三ツ矢サイダー」コマーシャルソングなどさんざん音遊びを見せてくれた大瀧と、松任谷正隆らと「キャラメル・ママ」（非常に残念な事にキャラメル・ママの独自のアルバムは一枚も無い）その後「イエローマジックオーケストラ」を坂本龍一らと立ち上げ、世界に飛び出した細野の音楽性の違いが分り、面白い。
そして、勿論の事、後半のはっぴいえんど時代の曲は、文句無く、良い。
和製ロックの幕開けとなった「はっぴいえんど」を、ほんの少し知るには、良いアルバムだろう。

日本語ロックが可能か、などという論争があった時代の嚆矢となった作品。そして、彼らはその根っこの部分。であるからには、はっぴいえんどは当然押さえておくべきモノ。
といっても、はっぴいえんどはオリジナル（スタジオ）アルバム自体三枚しかないのだから、ベスト盤ではなくて、それらのアルバムをちゃんと集めましょう。

　僕がこのLPを購入したのは、高校時代。「はっぴいえんど」や「風街ろまん」などを聴いて感激していたものの、それ以外にラジオなどではっぴいえんどの曲が流れていました。
　アルバムに入っていないために気になっていた折に発売されたのが、このLPでした。

　大瀧詠一の「恋の汽車ポッポ」と「空飛ぶくじら」。細野晴臣の「恋は桃色」などは、メロディが頭から離れませんでした。
　その後、CMソングなどが気になる時代となりますが、僕の高校時代はチャートに昇らず心をヒットしたシングルも多かったのです。
