オリジナルは1973年発売のベルウッドからのベスト盤。はっぴいえんどを初体験のリスナーには、3枚のオリジナル･アルバムから満遍なく選曲されているので、もってこいであるし、3枚とも聴いたヘビーリスナーにも、M1が小坂忠をコーラスにフィーチャーした別バージョンであるし、M12は71年のフォーク･ジャンボリー時の録音で、充分に楽しめる内容となっている。
そもそも、3枚出したオリジナルが、全て日本の新しいロックを切り拓いた名盤であるわけだから、当然のことながら、このベストは素晴らしい。どちらかというと、歯切れの良いはっぴいえんどの世界を中心に編集されているので、小難しさもまるでない。70年頭に、早くもこういうことをやっていたバンドがあったということを知ることで、音楽の聴き方に広がりが持てるようになるのではないだろうか。ここからつながっていった素晴らしい音楽は、本当にたくさんある。

古い２枚のCDが傷ついたので、この１枚を買い直します。

はっぴいえんどの好きな曲が全部入っています。

音楽を深い部分で演奏しているメンバーで構成されてたバンド。ニューオーリアンズ音楽にも近いダウントウアースなソングライティングセンスを見せる細野氏。まるでスティーリーダンライクなアレンジもあり、早すぎたバンドであったことがわかる。先鋭的な感性を持つメンバーが集結していたのがよくわかるアルバム。アメリカンルーツミュージック類をよく吟味して消化していたのがわかりその包丁さばきは相当に高いレベル。日本と言う土壌にアメリカンポップスを移植するということが
いったいどういう作業なのかを客観的にわかっていた。相当に音楽おたく指数は高い。いま聴いても込めたソウルは熱い。１０点中９点
