　私はこのアルバムを手に入れた日のことを一生忘れないと思います。
　なぜなら、偶然にもその日家に帰ってからテレビを見ていると、レイの死が報道されたからです…
　正直、恐くなりました。何か因果でもあるのかと心配しました。
　しかし、私はこれもレイが何かメッセージを伝えようとしているのだろうと考え、この出来事をポジティブに捉らえることにしました。
　そうすることこそ、壮絶な人生を通じてソウルミュージックを作り上げたレイに対する礼儀でもあるような気がしました。

　魂の叫びを力強く歌うソウルミュージック。レイの作り上げたソウルミュージックからは彼の壮絶な生き様がヒシヒシと伝わってきます。
　ある時には神への冒涜だと罵られ、またある時には魂を売ったと罵られました。また、信頼していた仲間に裏切られ、出身地であるジョージア州から永久追放され(後にこれは撤回され、「GEORGIA ON MY MIND」はジョージア州歌に指定されました)、さらには薬漬けで廃人になりかけました。しかし、それでもレイは歌い続けました。
　幾多の苦難を乗り越え出来上がった珠玉の歌の数々から、私は感じるものがかなりありました。

　是非、レイの壮絶な生き様に耳を傾けてみてください。

　あぁー、何て若い声なんだぁ、と思わずじーんとして
しまいます。写真のとおり、レイ様の若いころの歌声が
楽しめます。
　エリーマイラブの頃のあの、なんともしゃがれた渋く、
それでいて、聴いてて体にすぅと入ってくる後半のレイ様
もすてきですが、このCDでは、声に若さ独特のハリとツヤ
があり、まっすぐな勢いが感じられる1枚です。
　レイチャールズの2枚目、3枚目にお勧めです。
第二段もあり、曲が重なっていないので、あわせてどうぞ。

レイ　チャールズ氏の名前は耳にしたことはありましたが、亡くなるまで意識をして聞いたことはありませんでした。ワイドショーなどで流れる彼の声を聞いているうちに、惹きつけられました。このＣＤを聞いて初めて「この曲もこの人のだったのか」と思っているところです。
