敏腕プロデューサー・佐久間正英が、またやってくれた。それも今回は、とびきり贅沢でハイ・センスなアルバムを完成させた。伝説のグループB-52'sのKateと時代を象徴するジュディ・アンド・マリーのYukiのツイン・ヴォーカルに、これまた伝説となった元プラスチックスの佐久間正英と島武実が加わったNiNaの結成。それは、70年代から90年代にかけてのポップスの歴史が劇的かつダイナミックに融合した瞬間でもある。目黒区の武蔵小山にある、佐久間のドッグハウス・スタジオから昼夜問わず発信される音楽は、J-popの潮流そのものであり、ポップスの歴史そのものであったといってもいいだろう。その音楽的な業績が、この一枚の作品に集約されている。言い換えれば、大人から子供まで楽しめるポップだ。そういう表現をすると軽く思われがちだが、ここまでに至る歴史の重みと必然性に思いを馳せると、感慨ひとしおである。世代の枠と国境を超えたポップス文化誕生への胎動だ。 (小林泰介) --- 1999年12月号
