日本で初めてＵＦＯが紹介されたのはC'mon Everybodyが東芝から発売された1971年だった。立て続けにＵＦＯ１とＵＦＯ２のアルバムも発売されたが、演奏は荒削りで方向性もＵＦＯ１のハードロックからＵＦＯ２ではプログレ的になり、ただダラダラと長い演奏を続けているものであった。７２年にスリードッグナイトの前座として来日。その時の日比谷野音のLIVE版が、このメンバーでの３枚目（最後）のアルバムとなった。このLIVE版は、ワイルドかつエネルギッシュで彼らの熱演、まさにハードロックの熱さを実感できる秀作である。その後、彼らの活動はプツンととぎれたまま自然解散かと諦めていた７４年、クリサリスレコード（日本ではキングレコード）から｢PHENOMENON｣という色鮮やかなジャケットのレコードが発売された。まさしく、あのＵＦＯの復活である。しかし、メンバーのクレジットは、ギタリストがミック・ボルトンからマイケル・シェンカーに変わっていた。そして多くの曲作りに参加している。

第２期ＵＦＯ。そこから響くサウンドは、軽快でメロディラインを重視し、ヒット性の高い新生ＵＦＯの音だった。そこに今までのＵＦＯを求めることは出来ないが、それは逆にマイナーでマニアックなＵＦＯが、ヒットの出せる（商業的に成功する）バンドに生まれ変わった瞬間だったと言えよう。フィルのやや哀愁のあるボーカルを聞かせるCrystal LightやSpace Child、シェンカーのギターがうなるDocter Docter、Rock Bottom　そして、ひと時の安らぎをLipstick Tracesが・・・延びのある透明なシェンカーならのギターだ。その後のＵＦＯの成功は、このアルバムから始まった！　彼らの原点がここにある。

敬愛する、マイケル・シェンカー
在籍時のアルバム。UFO自体は良く
知らないんですけども、マイケル
の代表曲がいっぱい詰まっていま
す。
only you can*** とか doctor
doctorなんて本当にかっこよすぎ
です。

ヴォーカルの声にいまいち耳がな
じまないんですね。

マイケルの昔の音もとっても素晴
らしい。ゴワついたかんじですか
ね。なんともいえません。レコー
ドなんかできいたらさぞかし感動
するだろうと予測できますね。

ベースがいい。

月並みだが、名盤である。まだ世間を知らない「御大」・・・（笑）。これ以前から悪さを憶え、自分を壊していくが、すでに前兆が・・・メンタルの弱さは否定できない。しかし、余りある力を私たちにブツケテクル。「御大」もレズリー・ウェストの影響を語っていたが、私的には「音」のことで「構成」はクラシカルなものだと思った。やっぱ、環境でしょ・・・もう、無理。特に日本人には・・・多感な時期に聴いたから、余計「凄く」聴こえた。様式美万歳！！である。でも正直、このアルバムから学ぶものは多かった。明らかに、北米スタイルではないし、個人的に欧州スタイル（英以外）の「核」になった。Ｖをオークションに出品する「御大」・・・皆さんはどう思います？
