　世の中には名ライヴアルバムがいくつかあります。パープルの「ライヴ・イン・ジャパン」、スコーピオンズ「Ｔｏｋｙｏ　Ｔａｐｅｓ」、シンリジィの「ライヴ＆デンジャラス」、ＹＥＳの「イエスソングス」、ジャーニーの「Ｃａｐｔｕｒｅｄ」等など・・。
　ホワイトスネイクにはこの「ライヴ・イン・ザ・ハート・オブ・シティ」があります。このライヴアルバムは素晴らしい。どのロックの有名なライヴアルバムにも負けません。録音状態、各楽器のミックスなどのバランス、演奏、選曲、どれも最高。さすがはマーティンバーチ（この人が関わったアルバムってあまり悪いものはないみたい）。とってつけたようなアーティストのつまらんＭＣやオーディエンスの拍手や歓声を入れただけで「臨場感溢れるライヴアルバム」と勘違いしているやつはこういうライヴアルバムを聴いて勉強すべし。
　このアルバムではキーボードや、ドラムのソロタイムはありませんが、「ＬＯＶＥＨＵＮＴＥＲ」の中間にミッキームーディのソロタイムがとられています。スライドを多用した南部の薫り漂う泥臭いギターソロは聴いているだけで楽しくなってくるような素晴らしい内容です。ギターをやらない人でも十分楽しめると思います。
　あとニールマーレイとイアンペイスのリズムセクションも最高に気持ちいい演奏を聞かせてくれます。特にニールの艶っぽいベースランニングは渋いの一言に尽きます。
