「無人島に一枚だけ持っていけるアルバムを選ぶとしたら？」
「人生で一番影響を受けたアルバムは？」

音楽好き同士が集ったとき、上記のような会話を交わしたことがある方も多いのではないかと思います。
そんな時に、僕はＳＯＤＯＭの「ＡＧＥＮＴ　ＯＲＡＮＧＥ」と答えます。
鼻たれ中学生だった自分が、成長期にアイデンティティや価値観を形成する上で何よりも影響を与えてくれた一枚です。

個人的な思い入れは語りだすとキリがないので、音の方を解説します。

２ビートのスラッシュ・ビートを主体に突っ走る楽曲（１，２，３，６，８）の破壊力と爽快感は、ＳＬＡＹＥＲの「ＲＥＩＧＮ　ＩＮ　ＢＬＯＯＤ」にも引けを取っていないですし、疾走曲の中にもトムの「歌メロ」が確かに存在していて、そこがまた堪らなくカッコイイ！
２の中間ではアコースティックのパートも導入されていて、展開でも聴かせてくれます。
４のような歌える曲、ＳＯＤＯＭ史に残る大名曲７「ＡＵＳＧＥＢＯＭＢＴ」はＭＯＴＯＲＨＥＡＤ直系のＲ＆ＲとＰＵＮＫとＭＥＴＡＬの混血児といった感じで、これまた堪らなくカッコイイ！
凶暴なスラッシュ・チューンとヤサグレ爆走Ｒ＆Ｒ曲の２枚看板という、前作からの兆候を本作にて完全にモノにしたといった感じです。以後、このスタイルを現在でも貫いてくれてます。

今は亡きクリスのドラミングもいい味出してます。
彼より巧いドラマーはたくさんいるけど、彼のような味のあるドラムを叩ける人間を探すのは難しいことです。

僕は最初にＣＤで買い、アナログ盤も買い、限定ピクチャー・ディスク版のアナログも買い・・・そろそろＳＯＤＯＭの作品もデジタル・リマスター盤を出してくれませんかね？
ファンは待ってますよ！

スラッシュメタル大好きだぜ！ていう奴に限って四天王以外のスラッシュバンドは聴いてなかったりする。そいつらに喝を入れるSODOMの名盤中の名盤。SODOMは今も昔も強烈な反逆精神を貫く図太いスラッシュメタルをプレイしているが、特にこのアルバムの、SODOMの怒りが具現化された重苦しいサウンドには終始圧倒させられる。スラッシャーなら一度はこのエネルギーを体感したほうが良いでしょう。ていうか体感しろ。

にしてもアメリカのバンドがドイツの愚行を曲にして、ドイツのバンドがアメリカの愚行を曲にしたというのはなんとも面白い。

このアルバムは、初期の頃にあったブラックメタル的なものが姿を消し、純スラッシュメタルと言えるサウンドになっている。ただし、フロリダ系と比べるとその重いサウンドは際だっている。重くて速いなんてスラッシュメタルファンならよだれもんだろ?初期のソドムは言うに及ばず、ヨーロッパのスラッシュメタルバンドはブラックメタルの影響がなんとなく透けて見えるけど、このアルバムに関してはそれが全くないと言える。ブラックメタル的な世界観が苦手な人でも楽しく聴けるはずなので、安心して購入してほしい。なにしろアルバムのテーマが戦争反対だからね!愚かな指導者への怒りが爆発したかのようなサウンドで、ソドムの最高傑作であるのみならず、スラッシュメタル全体の最高傑作のひとつにあげるファンが多いのも十分に納得できます。また、タンクのカバー曲の#9を含めても駄作の類は一切ない。スラッシュメタルファンなら絶対に押さえておかないといけないスーパーアイテムです。
