一聴ダウン・トゥ・アース。色でいえば褪せたブラウンって感じで結構ゆるめ? と思いきや、これがじわじわキツくなっていく。山あり谷あり海ありで、やはり険しい。このサード・アルバムに先立ってダブを鍵としたUAだが、もはやそれが様式とか手法を超えて意志や姿勢のレベルに昇華している。今、彼女が紡ぎ出すすべてを繋ぎ止められる器としてのダブ、ということなのだろう。飢えと渇きの先にある蜃気楼みたいなオアシスに、歌の運命を託すような気概。そして肌触りがいたってネイティヴなのは、ハワイの伝著『時空のサーファー』に絆されたという波乗観にあるようだ。選ばれしダブワイズな楽曲(広義で)は、美空ひばりの(9)に、お馴染み朝本浩文、グリーン・ジニー(ケンジ・ジャマー+英国人2)、青柳拓次、花田裕之、それに初顔合わせ浅井健一/ブランキー・ジェット・シティの諸作。特に朝本の味付けは、ミュート・ビートのクールな精神を喚起させる。 (除川哲朗) --- 1999年11月号

小生５９歳の演歌ファン兼ジャズファンですが、「りんご追分」に目が止まり日頃無縁だったジャパニース゛ニューロックの世界に踏み込んで見ましたが、他の多くの歌手が美空ひばりナンバーを歌うと、ただなぞるだけに終わり期待はずれも多い中で、彼女はアフリカンリズムに乗せて独特のムードを創っており、気に入りました。ついでに他のアルバムも購入しましたが、繰り返し聞きたくなる不思議な歌手の一人だと思います。

ダブ＆レゲエアルバムとしてこの作品の完成度はずば抜けている。
レゲエミュージックをここまで日本の歌と融合させた作品はほかに類を見ない。

「9.リンゴ追分」は実はHarbie Hancockなどにも演奏されるジャズのスタンダードでもある。美空ひばりとレゲエとUAの融合。着眼点もすごいが、まったく違和感のないその完成度は驚かされる。

11のダブとしての完成度の高さ、レゲエミュージックに対する尊敬、たんなる素材としての使用にとどまらず、あくまでUAの音楽として発展させていこうという意思が結実した傑作だと思う。ちば

日本の音楽のここ１０年の収穫は、ＵＡのアルバムを聴けたことだと思っています。決して流行にとらわれず、良質な楽曲を提供していただける。このｔｕｒｂｏも実に高い完成度です。アコースティックな音と心地好いリズムで、アルバム全体通してＵＡの世界に浸れる気持ちよい作品だと思います。
