1970年代初頭にアイルランドから飛び出したフループが1975年にリリースした傑作。ファンタスティックなフォーク、トラッド、ジャズなどの要素をミックスしたドラマティックなサウンド。

フループは４枚のアルバムを出しているが、やはり最後にして最高傑作アルバムである。イアンマクドナルドのプロデュースがプンプンと香ってくるようだ。とはいえグループの個性であるなんとも英国チックで繊細なサウンドは継承されている。クリムゾンの初期には似ているがどこか違う。メジャーになれなかったのは仕方ないか、、、しかしプログレファンなら持っていて損のないアルバム。特にゴーメンハストはなんとも言えないジャージーな名曲。緩やかにたおやかに心地よい。
フループをあまり知らない方には、４枚のアルバムから８割収録した２枚組みCDが出ているのでそちらをお勧めする。

　元KING CRIMSONのイアン・マクドナルドのプロデュースでも知られている作品だ。
　一聴してプログレッシヴ・ロックと分かるサウンドだが、複雑にも派手にも感じられない。その要因は英国の伝統的な、フォーク、トラッド・ミュージックを基盤としており、それを大切にした、素直な手法でプログレッシヴ・ロックのアプローチを施しているからであろう。
　ただ、その方法に終始しているあまり、大人し過ぎる嫌いがある。後半の元気な曲も、その単調さの中で浮いてしまっている感がある。
　全体的にもっと変化に富ませ、メリハリをつければ、なお良くなったと思う。
