本当に衝撃的だった。
それまでのROCKシーンはグランジの波の後、何をやっていいのかわからないような停滞した状態だった。そんな中、普通のRock'ｎ Rollをものすごい自信を持って鳴らしたこのデビューアルバムは、迷走していたRockを正しい位置に戻したアルバムだと言える。実際、「俺は俺自身であるべきだ！」という

OASISの過剰ともいえる自信は、次々に伝染し90年代後半のRockシーンは随分豊かなものになったと思う。

Beatlesのパクリとかギターフレーズがいつも一緒とか、そんなものはどうでもいいと思えるぐらいの自信と勢い。<10>シガレッツ&アルコールのイントロなんてホントありがちなんだけど、それを使って、これだけかっこいい曲を書いてしまうノエルには脱帽。

音のバランスやアレンジは2ndアルバムの方が良いけど、個人的にはこのアルバムが一番好き。聴いた人すべてに自信を与えてくれる、そんなアルバム。

1994年リリース。オアシスの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。
マンチェスターに現れたこのメロディ・メーカーは既にインディーズでは有名で、この中の8.『Supersonic』はインディーズで1位を獲得していた。その詩、

I need to be myself, I can't be no one else

僕は僕自身でいなきゃならない、他の誰かになれやしないんだから

は、正に彼ら自身の信条そのもののだった。ノエルの創り出すシンプルにしてストレートなメロディは既にこのデビュー・アルバムにして健在である。 鬱屈した日常を吹っ飛ばしてくれる傑作だ（●＾o＾●）。

オアシスがまだ青かった時代…ギャラガー兄弟もまだ若くて、ドラマーもまだホワイトじゃなかった。。インディーチャート堂々の１位をとり、そしてアルバムはいきなりの１位を獲得した脅威の新人だったわけだが、内容はこれがオアシスのどのアルバムよりも聴きやすく、ソングクオリティも最高だ。Rock 'n' Roll Starから最後のMarried With Childrenまでみんな大合唱必至です。Supersonicの、アイデンティティをはっきり確立せよという歌詞、Slide Awayの自分に対する相手の憎悪や愛情を乗せたメロディ、そして最後はゆったりと、静かに安らかに眠れと訴えかけるような曲。今のオアシスとはまた違った面が見られます。UKロックの低迷から、黄金期へとまた引っ張りあげたきっかけとなった名盤です。
