   ビリー・コーガン（Vo,G）が意図したものをジェイムズ・イハ（G）のギター音に乗せて解釈すると、このような音楽になるのだろう。無数に現れては消えたオルタナ系バンドのなかで、彼らの音がしたたかに残ったのは、イハのもつ正統的なギター・テクニックによる押さえが強く働いているはずだ。明らかにジミ・ヘンドリックスやドアーズを連想させるリフは、このバンドのもつサイケデリックな雰囲気やヘヴィーでありながらメロディアスな面を演出するうえで、大きく貢献している。
   彼を中心に「音で勝負できる」という強みは、1991年のアルバム・デビューから2年を経たこの第2作目での成長ぶりを見れば明らかだろう。エッジの立ったドラムはよりタイトになり、バンド・サウンドとしてのスケールや方向性がしっかりとしている。ジャズやフォークの要素も取りこむなど、サウンドの展開がさらに可能だったバンドだけに、2000年に解散したことが惜しまれる。その意味でも、今後に現れるバンドの基盤となる音が実現されているアルバムだ。（駒沢敏器）

オルタナティブ・ロックの体現者、Smashing Pumpkins が大躍進するきっかけとなったセカンドアルバム。多彩な楽曲を構成する音・歌詞・エンジニアリング・プロデュースすべてが完璧、というような冷静な分析を抜きにして、世界中で、そして人生の中で一番愛しいアルバム。

日本盤の14曲目はボーナストラック。良質な曲でお得感はあるのだが、アルバム構成からいうと蛇足かも。Luna で止めて泣くべし。

Smashing Pumpkinsのセカンド「Siamese dream」、ビリー・コーガンのハスキーな歌声が好きだ。それとともに、一つ一つの楽器の音がとても図太い。美しいメロディーを耳にしながら、その音の存在感にはときどきハッとさせられてしまう。完璧なひとつの世界観、彼らの音楽は揺るがない。3曲目「today」は名曲だが、それだけじゃないのがこのアルバムのすごいところだ。この作品のプロデュースはニルヴァーナの「never mind」を手がけたブッチ・ヴィグ、彼の貢献なしではここまでのサウンドにはならなかったかもしれない。

アルバムジャケットのアートワークがけっこう気に入ってしまった。どこか懐かしさを感じさせるグラフィックが彼らの音楽にマッチしている。

グランジ、オルタナっていうと日本では猫も杓子もニルヴァーナ。でもスマパンこそ過小評価されすぎなバンド。恥ずかしいったらありゃしない。美しく、激しく、儚い。これだけ曲ごとの振れ幅が大きいのに、全体での統一感は見事。やっぱりビリーの（巧くはないけど）表現力のあるボーカルとイハのひねくれギター、ジミーの爆裂ドラムがあってこそ。一番好きなバンドは、これからもずっとスマパンです。
