伝説のダンスユニット「SPEED」の1st Album『Starting Over』。
平均年齢13.5歳の４人の少女はアイドルでもあったかもしれないが、やはりアーティストと言う言葉がぴったりのグループだった。
絵理子のパワフルボイスとと寛子の突き刺さる高音はすごすぎる。ただ小中学生が歌ってるだけではない。ずっとレッスンを積んできたシンガーであった。また、多香子と仁絵はダンスとコーラスに徹する所も、アイドルではなくアーティストと呼べる要素だったと思う。
そして、4人の個性があつまり1+1+1+1=「4」ではなく、それ以上の輝きを放っていた。

この1st albumはプロデューサーの伊秩弘将にとっても本当の意味の1st albumであったのだと思う。楽曲全てがシングルにしてもおかしくないくらいのクオリティとアイディアがちりばめられている。

シングルはデビュー曲の「Body & Soul」、初のミリオン曲「STEADY」、初のオリコン１位曲「GO!GO!HEAVEN」の3曲。まさに初めてづくしのデビューアルバム☆
またカップリングが2曲「I Remember」「Happy Together」収録されていますが、これまた名曲で伊秩弘将さんがSPEEDにかける情熱を感じます。

個人的にSPEEDらしく元気でカワいく、しかも聞かせてくれる「Kiwi Love」はオススメ！！ライブのアンコールなのでもよく歌ってくれて盛り上がりました。

そしてバラード曲で「Starting Over」はライブの最後に歌われる４人にとっても特別な曲です。じっくり聞き入ってください。名曲。

また、この「Starting Over」のアウトロからだんだんと1曲目の「Walk This Way」に戻るというおもしろいアレンジがされているオシャレでカッコいい最高のファーストアルバムなのです。

SPEEDと言えば、今や伝説（言い過ぎ？）となった国民的アイドル。弱冠12歳~15歳でデビューした彼女たちが約３年間にわたって音楽界にもたらした影響は測りしれない。デビュー曲の『Body&Sou』『Go!Go!Heaven』などのアップ・ナンバーから、『Starting Over』『サヨナラは雨の日』といったスロー・ナンバーまでこなしてしまう実力派だったんだなぁ・・・と改めてSPEEDのスゴさを思い知らされた。
ノリノリでアップナンバーを踊ったり、しっとりとバラードを歌いあげたり。SPEEDのいろいろな一面が、このアルバムに凝縮されている。SPEEDのアルバムは他にもあるけれど、この１stアルバムは特に好き。

僕は学生ですが、回りのいろんな人がこのCDを持っていました。そのため、回りに触発され購入しました。聴いてみて、幅広い年齢層にもOKなアルバムなのではないでしょうか？過去のヒット曲が実に満載です。ファーストアルバムでありながらも、高い完成度です。一度は聴いた事のある曲がほとんどです。解散してからも高く支持されてきたSPEEDの原点、あなたもどうですか？
