大沢伸一氏のアシッド・ジャズとソウルの取り混ぜ方が非常にバランスよく心地いいですね。更にはHIPHOPの飛び道具まで披露し、birdの手広さもみせていますが、基本的には彼女のハート・ウォーミングなR&Bボイスを上品に彩ったサウンドが展開されてゆきます。ブルー・ビートの鼓動とスウィート・ソウルの洗練されたフレーバーの上を、birdのしなやかな声が泳ぐとアンビエントな陶酔が生まれ、これは心つかまれました。彼女の情熱がクールなサウンドとよく絡み、均整の取れたR&Bが生れていたからです。

例えば11「満ちてゆく唇（Album Swing Mix）」のベースライン。birdの力強い歌声の裏で黙々と熱を加速させ、内なる高揚が歌声と相乗してゆく官能は、MISIAや宇多田のR&Bとは違うジャズコンポジションによる知的なテイストですね。また12「約束」のチルアウトなメロディのフローに、ボーカルが気だるく乗ってゆく際の、ゆっくりと壁が黄昏てゆくようなくすんだドルチェもいい味があります。更にその余韻が上手く13のコーダの終わり方に引き継がれ、ジャズピアノにより最後までしっかり音楽をきかせる抜群のoutroでしたよ。

他には3「空の瞳」など、シンプルな音なんですが私は大好きで、後にジャミロクワイのリミックスも手がける大沢氏のサウンド審美眼がよく投影されているんじゃないかと思います。シェイプされた曲の綺麗なラインを活かしてアグレッシヴにしてゆく感じです。また4「君の音が聴こえる場所へ」でのジャジーなピアノなど、今作はアコースティックな素材が本当によく活躍しますね。他方7「パズル」ではビートに乗ったbirdがスキャットだけで歌い奏でるシーンがあったり、前曲のラップよりヴォーカリストとして攻めてくる要素が強くみられ、彼女の歌声を表す楽曲としては最も注目するトラックです。

このCDを買ってから4年経ちますが、未だによく聴いています。伸びのある彼女の声は大沢伸一の楽曲に本当によく合っていて、聴いていて本当に気持ちいい！また、大沢伸一の楽曲のクオリティーの高さにも驚かされます。彼のプロデュースワークの中でも1、2を争う作品だと思います。とにかく捨て曲なし、文句なしにお勧めです。私はドライビングミュージックとしても重宝しています。

birdのアルバムの中でも、このファーストアルバムが一番好きです。しっとりめの落ち着いた曲が多いです。自分の勝手なイメージですが、一言で言うなら「アジアンリゾート」ですね。ぴったりです。ビーチの木陰で聞きたい。音は大沢伸一氏なので良いのは当然。なんといっても、birdの声がいい。深くてゆったりしてて。ほんとに心地よいです。
