オーケストラとの共演を試みたロックバンドは数知れませんが、ここまでの完成度を誇った作品は無かったのではないでしょうか。
しかもロックといってもデスメタルのフォーマットです。
「なんか思いつきでやってみたら凄いもんができちゃった」では説明の付かないブツです。
Waltariの実(行)力を知らしめた大傑作でしょう。

基本的にWaltariというバンドは

「インダストリアル気味のミクスチャーなんだけど北欧特有の美しいメロディーを聴かせたりする実は凄くハイセンスなバンド、だけどやっぱりどこか変」

みたいな表現されることが多いバンドで、それはSpace AvenueおよびRadium RoundでのWaltariを説明しているものだと思います。
そんなわけでWaltariの表の最高傑作はその2枚に譲るとして、裏の最高傑作としてこのアルバムを挙げたいですね。

　私がこのアルバムを聴いたのは高校生の時。それが彼等との最初の出会いであった。

　まず、手違いなのか何かは知らないけれど、全曲が１トラックにまとまっている。

　そのため、ＣＤで聴くときは一度聴くと後戻りできないわけだ。
　しかし、それが全く苦痛ではないのだ。
　
　また、普段、デス系をよく聴く私でもそのシンフォニックなサウンドを飽きることなく聴けた。
　かなり、ゴリゴリなデス声が入っていたということもあるだろうが、それだけではない。
　全ての曲がストーリー性に満ちているのだ。

　自身の拙い英語力で読み進めた歌詞やストーリーも面白かった。

　また、小馬鹿にしたようなラップ調のヴォーカル、フィメールヴォーカルも素晴らしかった。
　
　そして、最後の隠しトラックで彼等の本当の姿を知った。

　是非、デスメタルが好きな方はこのアルバムからＷＡＬＴＡＲＩの世界に浸っていただきたい。
　単なるメロデスやミクスチャーでは片付けられないかっこよさがあるはずだ。

　YEAH! YEAH! DIE! DIE!、英語で書いてもアホみたいなタイトルですが、このバンドならではの遊び心と思ってください。怖くない、怖くないよ。
　今ではシンフォニックデスメタルなんてものはありふれたものになってしまいましたが、この作品は他のシンフォニックデスとは別の次元にあるものと思いたいです。デスメタルをオーケストラがバックアップしているわけではなく、互いが切り離し不可能なパーツとして完全に融合してしまっているところがミソ。予想を裏切りっぱなしの展開も素晴らしく、これは間違いなく聴くことが一つの体験になります。
　入荷されていたら、値段は見ないで買ってしまいましょう。少なくとも、１万円分ぐらいの価値はあるCDですから。
