プレスティッジ時代のマイルスの演奏全94曲を収録した8枚組のボックスセット。マイルスのプレスティッジ時代は『マイルス・デイヴィス＆ホーンズ』に収録されている1951年1月17日のセッションが最初で、当時マイルスは24歳だった。それから5年、56年のマラソン・セッションまでプレスティッジでは全17回のセッションを行なったが、それらがすべてここに集大成されている。その中にはリー・コニッツのリーダー・セッションも含まれているが、それは唯一サイドマンとしての録音だった。チャーリー・パーカー、セロニアス・モンク、ソニー・ロリンズ、ジャッキー・マクリーン、ミルト・ジャクソン、アート・ブレイキー、ホレス・シルヴァーらと繰り広げるリリシズムあふれる演奏はこの時代ならではのもの。6~8枚目はジョン・コルトレーン、レッド・ガーランド、ポール・チェンバース、フィリー・ジョー・ジョーンズを擁するオリジナル・クインテットによる演奏。このクインテットによって、マイルスは独自のバンド・サウンドを確立した。（市川正二）
