5.0 out of 5 stars HM史に名を残す名盤, 2008/2/23
NWOBHMの雄SATANを母体とし、度重なるメンバーチェンジと３回の名称変更をするという憂き目に遭いながらも地道に活動を続け、PARIAH名義でリリースした本作｢UNITY｣は最終作としては惜しすぎる充実した内容を誇っている。過去２作(正確にはSATANのINTO THE FUTUREから)では、VoにM･ジャクソンを迎えていたが、本作ではVoに元TYSONDOGのA･ハンター、Drに元SATANのI･マコーマックを迎えている。過去このグループに属したVoと言えば、力強くもしなやかな声を持ったL･テイラー、どこかK･マイネっぽいM･ジャクソン、そしてなんと言っても、強烈なファルセットを武器としたB･ロスが在籍したわけだが、A･ハンターはというと、歴代Voのいいところを併せ持った素晴らしいVoである。正にNWOBHMにピッタリの逸材だ（ちょっとくぐもった所も良い）。
楽曲の方はというと、名盤｢COUGHT IN THE ACT｣程、禍々しくなく、そして前作｢BRAZE OF OBSCURITY｣程パワーメタルっぽくもない。かといってBLIND FURY名義の｢OUT OF REACH｣程POPでもない丁度良い塩梅のNWOBHMに仕上がっている。収録曲もドラマティックでメロディアス且つアグレッシブなものとなっており、「この１曲」として挙げるなら、#３のWALKING WOUNDEDだ。静かなバラード調の調べから徐々に盛り上がり曲後半でのスピーディな展開はIRON MEIDENの様だ。そしてどの曲でもギターソロが長く弾きまくっており、聴く者の顔が歪む程の悶絶度を誇りグイグイと音の世界へ引きずり込んでいく魅力がある。
本作を最後にSATAN〜PARIAHの長い歴史は幕を閉じる訳で、現在のSKYCLADではこの様なドラマティックなHMが聴けないのは残念でならない。
（追記）１０曲目でリードVoを執っているのはギターのラス・ティピンズだ。
