パンクロックの起源を明確にするのは難しいが、このＭＣ5もパンクロック以降すべてのリアルタイプなロックに影響を与えたといっても過言ではない。パンクの祖に位置づけられるバンドのひとつでありながら、その輝きを今も鈍らせていない。
このアルバムに詰め込まれたスリリングな疾走感とオリジナリティゆえに、ＭＣ5は孤高のバンドとなった。

デビューアルバムとなったこのライブ盤に記録された疾走感は、まるで極限にまでカスタムされた車が爆走する危険な香りであり、そのスピードは今も加速しつづけている。時代背景？そんな考察はこの『キック・アウト・ザ・ジャムズ』には一切必要ない。リアルタイプロックのほとばしる汗（オイル）だ。

彼らのサウンドはとても難しい。ガイド本にある評価は、彼らがどれくらい政治的なバンドだったか、これに尽きる。
”Kick Out the Jams”最初のＭＣ，かの４文字言葉が当時与えた衝撃をどれくらい書かれても、当時の時代の空気を知らないものには、ライブの息遣いから伝わる生々しさ以外は分からない。
しかし、である。ここにある衝撃は、単に当時のサウンドの新しさや、政治的発言の過激さではない。彼らがガレージの元祖であることをどれだけ書かれても、その後のガレージを知っている人には、趣味的な関心しか惹き起こせない。
はっきりと書けば、ここにあるのはガレージの雛形だったり、言葉の衝撃ではない。それは、怒りなのである。私はここまで怒って怒って怒りまくっている音を知らない。
そして、それを感じた瞬間に彼らの音はまるで違って聞こえてくるのだ。私が彼らに惹かれるのは、音の新しさや衝撃ではない。ここにある怒りの生々しさこそが、彼らの音が今でも色褪せない最大の理由である。

これを聴くたび、ただただヴォリュームを上げたくなる。MC5は気持ちをどこまでもハイに、ムチャクチャ盛り上げてくれる。圧倒的に荒々しいフィードバックノイズ、うねるグルーヴ。
＜５秒で決断せよ！５秒でなぜこの地球上でお前が存在しているのかに気付け！さあ、証言せよ！＞（アルバム冒頭部抜粋）
たしかに、これはたかだかロックンロールだ。だがこれは俺にとっては革命そのものだ。
