ロックの未来と言われたボスがその才能を開花させたアルバム（すいません。ちょっと偉そうで）。個人的に一曲選べと言われれば（誰も言わんが）、『Jungleland』です。この曲をライブで聴くまで死ねないです。何回もボスを自分で編集したテープ（まだ売ってるの？）！MD等を作りましたが、一曲目は常に『Thunder Road』で,最後は必ず『Jungleland』です。本当に曲順の流れがばっちりです。このアルバムは曲数の割に密度がかなり濃い。例えるなら大トロのような感じ？少しでも聴き応えたっぷり。しかし決して胸焼けはしません。ただこのあと裁判で、次作までのブランクが悔やまれる。この勢いであと一枚作って欲しかった。

スプリングスティーンの最高傑作であり、「ロック名盤」特集の常連でもある作品。彼が影響を受けた、ロック、ポップス、Ｒ＆Ｂ等を彼流の上質なロックン・ロールに昇華している。オープニングのサンダ-ロードのピアノとハーモニカのイントロから、ラストのジャングルランドのシャウトまで捨て曲無し。後に彼はこの作品を、「怪物」と表現したそうだが、現在まで続くＥ・ストリートバンドとの化学反応の結果がこの作品を「怪物」にしたのだ。このアルバムでの彼は間違いなく孤独な人たちのために歌っていた。

後に、まさにロックンロールの未来となった彼の代表作。
一時期はロックンロールの過去と皮肉られもしたが今も尚、過去の栄光
だけにすがりつく事なく、つねに進化する彼とバンド。
自らをロックンロールの首相と言い、ロックンロールを伝えるために
曲を書き、演奏する。ライヴでは「永遠の人生は約束できないが今この

瞬間は約束できる。」と言いきる彼。このアルバムも間違いなくその瞬間を
約束してくれる。
