伝説のバンド、クイーンのファーストアルバム。彼らは最初からすごかったのだ。一般にはオペラ座の夜やシアーハートアタックの世評が高いが、クイーンの原点を知るためにもこの若々しくて、才気あふれるアルバムは必聴だ。

レコードで持っていたものが綺麗な音で聞けて幸せだ。QUEENは知っているし割と好きな・まだ聞いていない人に是非お勧めの名盤（！）だと私は思います。有名なQUEENの曲が入ったアルバムはこれ以降のものが結構多くて沢山ある、かつまた彼らも洗練されて行くし（その才能があったからなんだけど）少々商売になって行く感もある。（ファンの方ごめんなさい）しかし、このファーストに関してはそういった一種の小細工感を微塵も感じない。生々しいのである。そういった意味で特別である。他のレビューにもある様にQUEENの音楽は既にこの一枚に殆ど内包されている。と共にそこに在るのは出し惜しみなしに迸るエネルギーと眩しいばかりに溢れる才能の輝きなのです。お若い方に是非！圧巻ですよ。

QUEENはそのデビュー盤において、自らの頂点を極めていた。アルバムとしての完成度はもとより、収録された楽曲全てが、文句のつけようも無い素晴らしい出来映えである。まさにロックの「かっこよさ」を体現した究極の一枚。
個人的には４枚目の「A night at the opera」までがQUEENの本質と考えており、以降バンドが志向するポップ路線への傾倒から徐徐に気持ちは離れていったが、最初の４枚、中でも本作は強い思い入れのあるアルバムである。７０年代ロック黄金期の幕開けを告げる最高傑作です。
