   前作『GOO』によって商業的成功を収めた彼らだが、そのエクスペリメント精神と決して大衆（マーケット）にこびない姿勢は、本作からもはっきりと感じとることができる。激しく響きわたる音を巧みにコントロールするサーストン・ムーアのギターが混沌とした音像を描き、激しく音圧を増したビートは抽象度を高めながら暴走する。
   また、90年代のアメリカが抱えていた、暗く歪んだ病理を鋭くえぐった歌詞も秀逸だ。このアルバムが表現した世界観は、20世紀末を確実にとらえていたのだと思う。（森 朋之）

初めて聴いたとき、このアルバムには、期待していたラバーズやテレビジョンやヴェルヴェッツの作ってきた一つのアングラ流れを感じることはなかった。そういう先入観でソニックユースに挑もうとしていた私だったので、当時初めてきいたこのアルバムでは少々がっかりしたのを覚えている。

ただし、そういう勝手に作っていた自分のイメージや期待というものを全て捨ててこのアルバムを聴いたとき、このアルバムの本当の良さ、混沌としない自由というのか、即興？みたいな部分のスリル、なにより素晴らしくカーブした音に大きな魅力を感じた。名盤かどうかは今は分からないがとにかくヘビーローテーションであることは間違いない。

ノイズとメロディ、という９０年代初頭のアメリカロックが追い求めた課題を、最も美しく、しかし猥雑に描き切った作品。Nirvanaが、カートコバーンが、傷だらけになりながら辿り着いたのと同じ場所で、彼等はただクールに佇みノイズの洪水を響かせた。Nirvana,Dinosaur Jr.の諸作品と並び、僕の「ロック」への価値観を決定付けた思い出深い作品。

サーストンが前作であった欠点を今作でクリアしたというので、前作だって完璧じゃん？と思ったが
今作を聴いてその意味がわかりましたのだ。
前作も１００点？と思いますが今作はそれより上をいってたのです。
彼らのノイズは普通の人でいうハーモニーなのです。ただただやかましくやっちゃえー！っていうのとは違って、
様々な色したノイズが右往左往に飛び交いそれを手品師のようにではなく、ハートでそのノイズを操るのです。
ヘッドフォーンで大音量で聴けばそのノイジーなハーモニーってやつが分かるはずです！
とまだ勉強中の身でありながら大きなことを言って申し訳ないのだ。
あとひとつ言うと冷静に分析すると前作と比べてミドルテンポの曲が多いのですが疾走感が全くうせてない。
痛快なのだ。重厚で重たいのに疾走感と表裏一体なのだ。
とりあえずは＃１＃２を試聴して即購入していただければいいのだ。慎重な方は欲しくなるまで３曲目から順番に試聴してもらえばいいのだ。
全曲聴いても気に入らない方は残念無念なのだ。次の機会をお待ちしておりますのだ。
これからもぽんちゃんはソニックユースを勉強していく所存であります。
尚、日本盤の追加トラックもかっこいい曲です。
