   イーノがアンビエントと呼ぶ「ディスクリート・ミュージック」の理論は、現代的な冷え冷えとした部屋のような音楽とはほど遠いものだ。イーノによる「ディスクリート・ミュージック」の概念は、極めて小さな音量で作用し、部屋の雰囲気をほんのりと彩る音楽である。（ディスクリート・ミュージックを追求するアルバム・シリーズの1作目となる）本作の長時間のトラックは、ほんの少しずつ徐々に変化し展開することで、リスナーの注意を極度に引くことを拒否している。けれども、だからといって意識的に聴かれることを意図していないわけでない。この音楽が意図しているのは、音楽を対位法で響かせることで、移りゆく音に鮮やかな軌跡を描かせたり、さらに言えば、リスナーにイメージを呼び起こさせることなのだ。（Douglas Wolk, Amazon.com）

様々なパターンを周期の異なるテープに乗せて各々を永延とリピート再生するという作品。
もちろんそのタイトル通りアンビエントとしてかけ流してもよいが、
単純なシステムによってもたらされる複雑な時間のズレであるとか
２~３の音の間の相互作用として生まれる響きをひとつひとつ聞き取るだけでも
相当に趣き深く楽しめる作品である。
曲は長いが一つとして同じ響きが聞こえることはないので飽きは来ない。

これ以上記憶に残る音も無いし、これ以上気にならない音も無い。
注意すれば聞こえてくるし、意識しなければ聞こえてこない。
アンビエント音楽の傑作。
