ロキシー・ミュージックというと最高傑作は『Avalon』と勧める評論家諸氏が多いが僕はホントに不思議だ。確かに『More Than This』はいい曲だけどもっともっとロキシーらしさが出ているアルバムは他にあるんだと思う。はっきり言って『Avalon』はロキシーらしさが欠けている。

最もロキシーらしさが完成された形で出ているのがこの作品だと思う。もうカッコイイの一言。Manifesto→Trash→Angel Eyesのメドレーを聴いてみるべし。最高傑作はこれだよ。

７９年発表の７作目。75年に一時解散、このアルバムは再結成の第一弾となった。再結成以前にあったおどろおどろしさは無くなり、洗練された後のアヴァロンの雰囲気すら漂わせる傑作アルバムになった。ニュー・ウェイヴ然としたそのサウンドはまさにモダンそのもので、いわゆるロキシー・ミュージックのイメージを一番感じる作品だと思う。かと思えば２．のような初期を彷佛とさせる曲もあったりするのがこの時期らしい特徴か？既にイーノやエディ・ジョブソンというビジュアル的にも実力的にも優れたアーティストがいないため、突出した部分がなくなってより滑らかな印象も受ける。このアルバムを聞くとロキシーに彼らは必要なかったと彼らの大ファンである私には感じるのだけどどうだろうか？新メンバーとしてポール・キャラックやヴァイブレーターズのゲイリー・デイヴスらが参加。全然目立っていないようだが、このフレッシュな音の前には彼らの貢献度がかなり高いと思わざるを得ない。３．と８．はロキシーの代表曲。時代を超えた名盤。

ロキシーの７作目。タイトルトラックである１曲目の立ちあがりの格好良さは、もう言葉で表現できません。ロキシーの真髄、といった感じ。全英チャート１位に輝いた８曲目「ダンス・アウェイ」はメロディアスな名曲ですが、 重い曲調でめくるめく「ストロンガー・スルー・ジ・イヤーズ」など、なんと素晴らしい。。
