ロキシー・ミュージックの3枚目のアルバム。
ブライアン・イーノの脱退で、エクスペリメンタルな要素は後退。
シャンソンのパロディー的な「ヨーロッパ哀歌」に代表される、
(後にブライアン・フェリーの代名詞となる)「ダンディー」な雰囲気が全面に出てくることに。
1,7など繰り返し演奏される定番曲も登場している、かれらの原点であり、名作のひとつ。

素晴らしいアルバムだ。今のフェリーが奮起してもこのレベルの作品をクリエイトするのは難しいだろう。
この時期のフェリーは画期的だ。彼は他のソングライターやヴォーカリストが無視してきたことをあえて強調する。それは男の弱さでもあり、はかなさでもある。そしてヨーロッパのミュージシャンがいくら必死になってもアメリカンポップスやブラックミュージックには勝てないという事も。
本作では既にイーノは不在。それゆえフェリーの思想と歌が強調されています。目玉は6のソング・フォー・ヨーロッパ、フェリーにとって「敗北」と「悲しさ」は重要なモチーフ。それが最もわかりやすい形で結晶化しています。5のセレナーデも彼の気質が顕著に出ています。古臭い日活映画みたいなラブソングをニューウェーブ風のアレンジで歌ってくれます。このギャップが嬉しい。
とにかくこれほど「人工的」で「薄っぺら」で「キッチュ」なアルバムは他にはありません。ヨーロッパでは売れました。（73年発表）

i remember all those moments lost in wonder that we'll never find again........
　ヨーロッパ哀歌のフェリーの声は、悲しい。１曲目の「ストリートライフ」で、喧騒の中にいたフェリーは、なんでこんな悲しい歌を歌うのだろう。そして、次の「マザー・オブ・パール」。喧騒から始まり、安らぎに終わるこの曲で、フェリーは何に出会ったのか。
　前期ロキシーの中でも、特に素晴らしいアルバム。
