ブライアン・フェリーとブライアン・イーノという、ウマが合うんだか合わないんだか分からない二人が居た最初期のアルバム．内容は，デカダンスで前衛的なロックアルバムなんですが、ただ新しい音を取り込もうというよりも，５０〜６０年代のロックンロールや，（ビッグバンド的な）ジャズに対する憧憬もあるし、と新しい音と古い音が無秩序にごちゃ混ぜなレトロフューチャーな感じ。今となっては全てレトロだけど。

センスが非常に良くて，聞いてて楽しいです．チンドン屋みたい。

プログレでもないし、グラムでもない。それぞれの要素を併せ持ちつつも，非常に独特のセンスで毒を放ったロックバンド。

それにしても、ブライアン・フェリーのジェームスボンド的な意味不明な男前っぷりは、一体なんだろう。

今となってはファンファン大佐みたいな風にしか見えないが，出てきた当時は非常に斬新だったはず。

この後「アヴァロン」に辿り着くとは到底思えないですねえ。洗練の対極、というか洗練を全否定しているとしか思えない継ぎ接ぎ感が凄い。

後々の彼の方向性を見ていると一体どっちが本当の彼なのか、あるいはどちらも嘘なのか．

未だに私たちは色事師に騙され続けてんだろうか．

感慨深いデビュー作であると思う。

1972年ロキシー･ミュージックのファーストアルバム。

ファーストアルバムにして
音楽性にもファッション性にも極まった感のある、
まさに個性派揃いのロキシー･ミュージック。
奇抜な容姿に前衛的な音はＵＫロックミュージックシーンを揺るがした。

本作はロキシー･ミュージックを代表する個性派メンバーが揃っており
今から思えば最初にして最後の超豪華キャストで送られる。
その音をプロデュースするのはこれまた豪華で、
キング･クリムゾンのピート･シンフィールド。
２曲目の「レディトロン」や８曲目の「ウッド･ユー･ビリーブ？」など
メロトロンを用いたりしてクリムゾンチックなアプローチを見せる。

しかし、一番の聴き所は１曲目の「リ-メイク/リ-モデル」であろう。
フェリーのハスキーなヴォイス、マッケイのフリスキーなサックス
イーノの良く分からないシンセサイザー、マンザネラのノイジーなギター。
この一曲に革新的でアナーキーなロキシー･ミュージックの全てが
集約されているといっても過言ではないのかもしれない。

今聴いても少しも色あせない音色は
EGレコードの層の厚さと音源発掘の目の確かさをして
現代音楽事情に対し問題提起しているとも取れる。

1972年作品。フェリーさんを中心にメンバー全員が話し合ってこのようなサウンドが出来あがったらしいんですが、どんな話し合いだったか聞いてみたかったなあ。とにかく前代未聞の感触。「時計仕掛けのオレンジ」の目をクリクリの拷問のＢＧＭかウッドペッカーの走る音か、頭の中のシナプスの使ってないとこを、ちくちくされます。大真面目に歌うフェリーさん、チャルメラ・マッケイさん、うねりまくりマンザネラさん、普通の人なので困惑気味トンプソンさん、我我関せずシンプソンさん、そしてやってやるイーノさん、この陣容だからこそ、なしえたいっせいのせ音楽。私が７０になっても「好きだあ」って言っていたいです。
