１９８４年に出た当時から、その感動は全く衰えません。普通ポップミュージックは大人になると聴くのが辛くなるときがありますが（実際『ファンタスティック』には若干きつい曲があります）、このアルバムには通して聴かせる何かがあります。おそらく永遠のポップメロディーなのでしょう。シングル以外の曲のほうが好きです。

今から19年前中学生になりラジオを聴き始めて、いろんな音楽に出会う中で遭遇したワムの名作である、本作品によって音楽を聴くのが好きになった、とにかく聴いてて楽しい気持ちになった、ポップな感じと言うか、ワムの活動期間は決して長くはなかったが我が青春の永遠の名作です

こうして見てもやはり84年と言う年は凄い。80年代を代表するアーティストの傑作が揃っている。WHAM!のこの作品も若さと才能に溢れた、エネルギッシュな作品で、時代を大いに盛り上げた一枚である。当たり前のプロフィールは他に任せて私なりの評価を・・。【1】を起爆剤にブームを起こした２人。このノリノリのドPOPチューンをリード・シングルに持ってきて見事全米NO.1に送り込む。ここから怒涛の快進撃が始まる。次々にカットされる曲をトップ３へと叩き込み、名実ともにBIG STARとなる。　モータウン調が軽快な【5】、日本でもカヴァーが続出した、もっともイギリスで愛されてる哀愁のバラード【8】、　そして私がWHAM!の曲の中で一番好きなナンバー【2】。GEORGEの偉大なる才能とセンスを世間に知らしめる重要な曲となった作品。ただの浮かれたアイドルではなく、立派なアーティストなのだと・・間違いなくこの【2】は名曲である。アチコチでよく聴くのはやはり【1】だが・・・確かに２人の名刺代わりの様な曲だ。　実質上【8】の超有名バラードはGEORGEのソロ名義だし、この後の作品を聴いても【2】程のレヴェルの高い作品は出てこない。そりゃー好みを言えばそれぞれって事になりますが、私としては、ここがWHAM!のピークで結果　その後、解散。そしてGEORGEはソロ作品へと、次に才能を発揮できる”場所”へ移ってゆきます。実際LAST ALBUMはツギハギだらけの寄せ集めの様な作品でした。短い期間で弾け飛んだ感のある２人ですが、残された記録には、紛れもない時代を代表する、失う事のない輝きを刻みこんだ。解散後のGEORGEの活躍は言うまでもない。いろいろ世間を騒がせてもいましたが（笑）。このWHAM!としてのMAIN ALBUMには他にも良い曲はあります。アイドル全開の【3】、私の結構好きな淡いバラード【4】、ソウル・フレイヴァー溢れるアレンジでゆったりと聴かせる【7】、軽快なサウンドと”黒い”コーラスがGEORGEの音楽ルーツを感じさせる【6】（多分カヴァー曲）など、ANDREWには悪いけど殆どGEORGEの”モノ”になってる感は否めない。けれどANDREWが隣にいてこそのWHAM!だし、この２人だからこそ成し得たものだと思う。当時、「子供の音楽だ。」と批判した、才能を見抜けなかった人達はGEORGEのその後の活躍をどう感じただろうか。まァ人がどうとらえようが、私にしてみれば「こんなに楽しいALBUMを作ってくれてありがとう・・」それだけです。　理屈で考える作品ではないと言う事。２人のあの笑顔をみればわかるよ。それがすべてです。THANK YOU！WHAM!!
