他の作品はそこそこでも、何故か奇跡的に1枚ものすごい作品を残すというのがあるが、これもそうだと思う。

控えめな歌声、ストリングスやアコギの使い方、などサウンド全体が非常に脆いガラス細工のような美しさを放ち、なおかつポップであるという音楽。ありそうなコンセプトだが、実際にアルバムを通してその居心地が持続する作品は珍しい。これはその奇跡の1枚だ。70年代独特のノスタルジーもあるが今聞いてもやっぱりポップ。

遅い午後の光が差し込む窓辺で本でも読みながら聞くと最高。

いや本当に奇跡のような一枚。
甘く、それ以上に切ない声。
宝石のような曲たち、といってもカバー曲が多いのだけれども、オリジナル曲がそれに負けじ劣らず名曲なのには言葉を失います。
アレンジが絶品。ストリングスの使い方が上手すぎる。それが全体のカラーにもなっていて、私は「秋」を感じます。
流れも完璧（これについては日本版の小西康陽さんの解説も読んで欲しい）。

ゾンビーズの時も良い曲をたくさん書いてきましたが、その71年のソロ第一作は、本当に感動的です。深く深く自らの内面に潜って行ったような、ただ良い曲というだけでは片付けられない楽曲群、本当に心を打つ名曲でいっぱいです。アレンジの特徴としてはストリングスを多用し、かなりクラシックな味わいですが、決して大仰にはならずにあくまでソングライター然とした印象です。また内省的でありながらも、そこから解き放たれた開放感、至福感みたいなものが一気にこちらに向かって放射されているような気分になり、聴き終わった後、ヘビーな内容だったなと思うことがありません。こういうのを本当のエバーグリーン、永遠の名盤というのだと思います。若さと成熟のミックス具合、この瞬間にしか出来なかった音楽がここにあります。
