   1980年のSF映画『フラッシュ・ゴードン』のサウンドトラック。最近になって底抜け超大作として、別の意味で再評価されているこの映画だが、クイーンが主題歌「フラッシュのテーマ」と挿入歌「ザ・ヒーロー」に加え、映画スコアも担当した。本作はそれらのスコアも収録し、通常のクイーン作品とは異なった味わいに仕上がっている。上記2曲以外は純粋な映画音楽で、いわゆるポップ／ロック作品ではないものの、ブライアン・メイのギター・オーケストレーションによる「ウェディング・マーチ」ほか、思わぬ聴きどころが多い。より深くクイーンを知りたいファン向け。（山崎智之）

フラッシュ！！アァ~で始まるフラッシュゴードンのテーマは有名。
タモリ倶楽部の空耳アワーのコーナーで取り上げられたこともあり、
一曲の中から３つも空耳が採用された。
このアルバムはＳＦ映画「FRASH GORDON」の
サウンドトラックでありながらもQUEEN名義で
出しているところに彼らの自信を感じる。
「オペラ座の夜」や、「世界に捧ぐ」等の

アルバムとは感じが違っていることもあり、
マニアと呼ばれる人の間でもあまり人気の
ないアルバムだが、QUEENの作品の一つとして
楽しんでほしいと思う。QUEENのアルバムに一曲の損もなし。

同名映画のサントラ盤。ということになっていますが、ハワード・ブレイクのオーケストラ調の曲はなく、クイーンの楽曲だけが集められているので、映画のサントラというよりは、あくまでクイーンの作品というべきでしょう。曲も映画のアレンジとはいささか異なるしね。特に、「ザ・ヒーロー」は映画版のアレンジの方がいいです。
何はともあれ、ワクワクする曲が一杯です!

クイーン絶頂期のころの同名映画のサウンドトラック。ボーカル入りは１曲目と18曲目のみで、あとは全てインストゥルメンタルです。一応、全英10位、全米42位までヒットチャートを上りましたが、これは「クイーン」の名声がそうさせたと思って構わないでしょう。

そもそもサントラとは、感動したとか面白かったとか、何かしらの印象を受けた映画のバックに流れていた曲を自宅で再び聴いて、その時の感銘を思い出して反芻するためのものだと思います。ですから、映画自体を面白く感じなかったり、見てなかったりすれば、サントラを面白く感じるのは至難のわざでしょう（よほど音楽としての完成度が高ければまた別ですが）。

というわけで、映画「フラッシュゴードン」を見て面白かった人か、かなりのクイーンマニア以外は買う必要はないでしょう。私は後者です。
