テレビや、映画で、「ほんのさわり」をしょっちゅう耳にする「sugar baby love」、いったい誰の曲だったのかもはっきりしないまま、数十年がたっていた。この曲以外、まったく記憶になかったが、「いい時代のポップス」をじゅうぶんに楽しむことができた。

この１曲のために買っても、価値はじゅうぶん。いくつになっても、自分の中に、青春の残滓は残っているのだ、と実感できるアルバム。

シュガーベイビーラヴは聞いたことがあると思います。今聞いてもなかないいですね。他の曲はあまり記憶にありませんが、印象深いグループです。３０数年たってもまだ覚えている、こういう曲がいいものだと思います。いまのジャパニーズ・ロックも何十年たっても人の心に残っていて欲しいと思います。

　Sugar Baby Loveという曲以外はおそらくほとんど知られていないし、実際たいしたこともない。そもそもこのグループはこの曲をレコーディングするために集められたスタジオ・ミュージシャンだったと記憶している。

　でもこの1曲だけを聞くためにこのCDを買うのは賢明な行為だ。これを知らずにポップス・ファンを名乗るくらいなら死んだ方がましだと思わせるくらいだからだ。
　曲はオールディーズっぽい作りで、「アメリカン・グラフティ」でも使われてた「Little Darlin'」というのに似ている（おそらく影響されてる）。

コーラスの使い方、途中ではずかしいような語りが入るところ、など半分パロディでアレンジしたか？とさえ思わせるくらいの真向勝負の音作り。
　しかしブリティッシュ・ポップの魔法をあなどる無かれ。割ときちっとした感じの演奏や白人らしい澄んだハーモニー、「こんなポップソングで、」と思いながらもつい胸キュンになってしまう独特のせつなさ。

　映画「E.T」のラストでいまだに泣いてしまうのに似た魔法がこの曲にはある。
