今さらではあるが、この歴史的な名作の価値は、今でも全く色褪せていない。
もともと、「トミー」に続く「ライフハウス」のサントラとして企画されたが、映画「ライフハウス」の制作が頓挫し、サントラのみがこの作品に生まれ変わったもの。

この時期のフー、とりわけ、ほとんどの曲を作ったピートの絶好調振りは尋常ではない。「ババ・オライリー」「バーゲン」「ビハインド・ブルー・アイズ」「ウォント・ゲット・フールド・アゲイン」を始め、本当に全ての曲が名曲揃いで、ピート作以外の唯一の曲であるジョンの「マイ・ワイフ」もジョンの代表作（歌詞が面白い）。

また、「ライフハウス」用に作られたが、当時、はずされた曲も収録されているが、「ピュア・アンド・イージー」等々、アルバム収録曲に遜色ない曲も多い。
ロック好きで、この作品を聞いたことがないという人も少ないだろうが、もし聞いていないのなら、この作品に出会う幸せをこれから味わえる幸せな人です。

　これを聴いたとき、正直ぶっ飛んだ記憶がある。それまで自分の中のロックは内面のフラストレーションを炸裂させ、手当たり次第に暴発していくものと思っていた。ストーンズやツェッぺリンしてもどこか箱の中で聴いているような鬱屈感があった。
　これはそうしたロックに対するイメージを根底から覆してくれたアルバムである。聴いた瞬間に大空の下にいるイメージが沸き、何者からも開放されてしまう。もともとWHOは大好きなバンドだが、この一枚は別格である。自分の精神の世界を広げてくれるアルバムなんて、今だにめぐり合ったことなど無い。

WHOの代表アルバムは？、と聞かれれば、迷わず私は、このアルバムをあげます。あとライブアットリーズがあれば、あとは、時間があれば、どーぞって感じです。ともかく、1971年にこのクォリティのアルバムが出来てしまってることに驚きです。日本では、WHOの評価が驚くほど低いですが、英語圏ではストーンズ、ツェッペリンと負けないくらいのビックバンドでした。ARPシンセのシーケンサーによる実験的な曲や、ｖｃｓオルガンの多様など非常な意欲作ですが、映画ライフハウスの残骸であることはあまりにも有名です。ライフハウスが成功してたら、いったいどんなものになっいたのか、残念ですが、このアルバムが出たことだけでも感謝したいです。頓挫した時　ピートはまったく,興味を失ってたらしいですが、レコーディングプロデュサーのGジョーンズによって、オリンピックスタジオで再レコーディング、ピートのダブルアルバムにという提案を押しのけ、シングルアルバムに絞った方が、セ-ルス的に有利だとのことで、Gジョーンズの商業主義の産物とピートは、当初不満だったらしいです。でもやっぱり、WHO’S　NEXT　は、絞られた選曲のエデション無しのオリジナルが1番だと思うのは、私だけでしょうか？。

一言でいえば「元気がでるCD」。Tommyよりもパワフルだし、音がものすごく力強い。おまけのトラックもいい。英文だが曲ごとの解説も詳しく参考になる。
