   キース・ジャレットのスタンダーズ・トリオはライヴで真価を発揮する。最初のライヴ盤は85年の『星影のステラ』だった。その後『枯葉』『オール・オブ・ユー』『ボディ・アンド・ソウル』『ウィスパー・ノット』と、考えてみると代表作はみなライヴ・レコーディングばかりだ。本作、またしかりである。これは94年6月3~5日にニューヨークのジャズ・クラブ、『ブルーノート』に出演した時の演奏をコンプリートな形で収録した6枚組で、3日間で演奏した全38曲がそっくり収録されている。おなじみのスタンダード曲もこのトリオが演奏すると、まったく雰囲気の異なる独自の世界に色付けされる。即興演奏の妙をとことん追究しながら、同時に原曲の持つ美しさを最大限引き出す詩情豊かな演奏は、聴く者を魅了せずにはおかない。このトリオがライヴで真価を発揮するのは、自然発生的に生まれる精神の高揚感が演奏にプラスしているからだろう。それにしてもキースのバラード解釈のうまさは心憎いばかりだ。これぞスタンダーズ・トリオの金字塔。（市川正二）

全38テイク（曲としては41曲）からなるこのコンプリート盤は、1994年の6月3日〜5日の3日間、ニューヨークのブルーノートで行われたトリオのライヴを全て収録したもの。
全く驚いてしまうのは、この3日間のライヴで演奏した41曲のうち、ダブりはPartners、Things Ain't What They Used to Beの2曲のみで、あとは全て違う曲であるという事実。
普通、バンドにもレパートリーというものがあって、このようなライヴを3日間で6セットもやると、少なくともいくつかは同じ曲が出てくるはず。
多分そのほうが演奏者も楽だし、馴染みの曲をやれば客も喜ぶ。
スタンダード・ナンバーを共通語としているところが、そこがこのトリオの凄いところなんだろうな。
場を提供したブルーノートの徹底振りも見事で、このライヴに関しては事前に禁煙が伝えられ、演奏10分前からは飲食物のサービスも中断されたのだとか。
緊張感も高まるというもの。
キースのコンサートには度々足を運んでいるが、雰囲気はジャズのコンサートというより、クラシックそのもの。
咳払いさえはばかられる。
そういう背景から、この録音には、ビル・エヴァンスのトリオが1961年にヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードで演ったような雰囲気は微塵もない（笑）。
バラード好きとしては、"Skylark"や"Everything Happens to Me"、"My Romance"がたまらない。
このトリオをブルーノートのようなホールじゃないところで聴けたアメリカ人達が羨ましい限りだ。

　何よりクラブ・セティングという点が大きい。Keith がとても身近で演奏している感じだし、ホール録音にはない拍手やざわめきのリアルな雰囲気。こちらもワインを開けたり軽い食事でもしたりすると、実際にＮＹブルーノートにいる気分になる。
　テンションとリラックスのバランスがよく、全６セットを通して曲が異なり、後半にオリジナルの比率が高まっていくという構成感がある。しかも６枚の最後まで聴き果せる雰囲気はクラブ録音ならでは。
　演奏はといば、これが相変わらず神懸り的な凄さが随所に示現。「You Dont know What Love Is」「My Romance」「On Green Dolphine Street」などスタンダードからの新たな美的価値の創造。「The Fire Within」「Desert Sun」といったオリジナルにおいてはもう桃源郷に彷徨い込んだかのような物凄さ。やはりVol１から６にかけて調子が上ってきていると思う。

なぜ輸入盤の方が高いのか、意味不明。輸入盤で収集しているひとは辛いでしょう。でも内容は最高です。６枚組の欠点はありません。重複曲がないので損しません。
